Unfortunately no. I don't know if you get in some places like Florida, but it's not available in the cooler regions. Best is to ask someone in india to buy 200 grams of amla fruit (round variety, not the star shaped one), dry it after taking out seeds. You can powder that dried amla. I have seen dried but salted amla in stores, those can't be used obviously.

 

They are all exports from India, very few are local. And none of them work. Plain cheating in the name of amla powder.

 

Yes, I regularly make Amla pachadi once a week. One amla, shredded coconut, 2 green chillies, asofotida powder, salt and thick yogurt - grind all the ingredients in the mixie and saute with mustard seeds and curry leaves. You are done and serve with plain rice and gingelly oil. You are getting a week`s C vitamin!
Amla pachadi is my daughter`s favorite, she is very picky eater. But this one she likes it.

 

I have bought frozen Amla from Indian stores. It depends on the location. It was good

today I colored my hair using Loreal casting creme gloss. Did not use the full bottle. Just halved the amounts into a cup , mixed and used. After using Garnier Olia all this time, I find this has a bit of a chemical smell to it.
Pros-
-the timing is only 20 minutes unlike olia which is about 30min but I take 40 min
-the color is spot on and has caught very well on my hair[used the rich black one as I could not find the darkest brown which I usually buy]

cons-
- has a bit of a chemical smell to it unlike Olia which is really pleasant
- conditioner is not great
- difficult to remove the dried dye on your scalp after several minutes of washing
- the hairfall was much more than I used to get for olia
- hair didnot feel smooth like I used to feel when I used olia conditioner.

They say the color will last for 28 shampoos. Lets us see how long it lasts. I am still trying to push the recoloring time to at least once in 3 months. For olia the color washes away in 5 weeks or 5 washes for me as I try and wash my hair mid week and so only once a week.

How do you know if all the dye has washed off. I look at the water, it seems clear but when I come to the sink and squeeze the hair ends, I get to see mild color. Also the color had dried up near the hairline and did not wash off. I noticed it only after coming out of the bath and had to wash that area again.
