    It was 1995..

Planned to go to the beach with my cousin,my mom and brother.I was at an age of where I wanted to explore with fashion (whatever was available at that time) and wanted to look cool.I wore a cream top and brown knee covering length shorts(?)which I brought from pondy bazaar ( a place which was the shopping hub in Chennai). My heart was
Racing as I had to step out of my home and climb the auto.Interesting my family were supportive and didn’t care about what I was wearing.I was this super skinny teen with stick legs and nothing appealing honestly.

I walked to the auto stand and remember a guy whistling and the autowalla looked at my legs..I was cringing. We reached Marina beach.I am not kidding when I say there were so many men of all ages staring at me as though I did a crime. Some Looked with certain perversion in their eyes.I acted very cool but my heart was beating too fast.

I took of my sandals and stepped in the water.Looked up and there were men who were grinning at me and some making lewd comments..

I was extremely unhappy that day. When I got home,my mom said “You don’t live in America.Unfortunately, our society does not accept short clothes. So be careful”.

I never touched those shorts again...

Today morning,I was doing some closet cleaning and was getting ready for spring and then sooner or later dear summer will set in.I found my shorts and smiled. Here,I wore those shorts and maybe not much now but my dream to wear short outfits materialized.I called my mom and reminded her of that unfortunate day in 1995..

Mom laughed and said times have changed so much and shorts are not at all a huge deal even in Chennai now.with a huge sigh, yes it is not..Times have changed so Much.perspectives, opinions changed a lot.All those once conservative people have become more liberal.

Dressing is just an example.Be it love marriage, living together, exploring freedom in terms Of education..lots have changed.I didn’t get to Live in a society like that at my prime time !!I envy!

One thing I realized was everyone has desires but we talk according to
Our situations and convince ourselves that our perspectives are right.

Again, citing the dressing as an example..my cosister said “people
Come abroad and change completely mordern. So stupid”.
I said “ everyone likes variety of clothes and if they had the body, guts, confidence and place to wear it,they will.If u have the chance, you will do the same”.She did not say anything.

Many men and women have committed suicides coz of not society accepting love marriage, not accepting their sexuality, but how times have changed!! Now everything is accepted more liberally! Why lie to Ourselves and convince about the right or wrong thing to do! Nothing is right or wrong as long as it does not harm That other person.Just coz one can’t do it..trying to say and confuse them they are wrong so that we can feel better is what is wrong!

Those days married women are aunties!Even in movies a mom will be shown with a sad face, old saree and bun hair.If she is rich, she will get to wear gold chain glasses. Now moms are like sisters!!

past decade most women started to work which is great and it was tough to be a homemaker.Nowadays..there are so many men who are househusbands!! Some desi husbands too..Some even I know Personally and their confidence makes me wonder and admire them.
    Times are changing..

I am changing too, can feel my once conservative thoughts have become more liberal.

Just thought to write down my thoughts..
    How times have changed !!!:)

    @anika987
1995-2020 that’s exactly 25 years a silver jubilee of time had gone through your mind from Marina to Madagascar. Kudos to you for shrinking 25 years of time into a post describing primitive vs modern, liberal vs conservatives, perspectives of sisters of yore vs today. I enjoyed your jotting here.

    2. I wish to write more but let me read comments of your other followers and revert.

    Happy Holi.
    Thanks and Regards.
GOD - have You too changed with times?!

    Beautifully written @anika987

Yes, times have changed so much. Think internet-café and smart phones, now. Many things even the gas lines are everywhere, unlike the lpg cylinders of past.

I too feel envious sometimes, of the new things available for young generation, even the amazon in India, they can get exactly what they want in a few days. One time I wore a mismatched dupatta, because there was no other go. It was lime green and my cloths were sea green. I got used to it.

With each generation, things become easier at many fronts. Still the things become difficult at other fronts. And each generations compares with the other generation. My mother tells me - "but you had diapers" (for your children)

I guess, the loneliness in society is growing and will continue to grow. Temperature control of our abodes, will continue to increase. I feel, today young generation has the burden to look thin- way more than us. They have the pressure to have an online presence etc. Eg I am FB, but I don't feel any pressure to share, but the younger generation is over sharing.

I am counting my blessings, I am glad I have FB, no snapchat.

Hardly anyone can go back and relive. No matter which country.
It'd be like trying to get back into the shorts of 25 years ago.

In the Jane Austen drama, they would call it having "no improper pride"...
    Totally deserved.

95 was i was in school. But i just wore my jeans from my graduation days exactly 10 years back.
i danced so much with joy...ate 7 idlis and 2 ras malai to celebrate too.

then when i changed the jeans back there was in red line on my stomach. Just want to reduce 1-2 last kgs to fit comfortably on that.

By the way it one of those skinny fit jeans which was so out of fashion at time now and is back in again. My brother made me change them saying i looked like cartoon.i also cut them till ankle i dunno why ( ahead if times ...)

I send him the pic when i wore again found them lost lost items, fashion now i feel is better. he although did not remember anything and said i still look like cartoon.
    sigh!

Once I woke up I saw this thread, but had to finish my morning walk . So decided to get back from walking and read the thread . But somehow this title was on my mind and I went for a walk n observed a few things relating to title.
    I'll narrate here :
    1) I saw a person delivering newspaper and he was riding a moped and going from one house to another. I thought how things have changed. The newspaper wala who used to use a bicycle to deliver the newspaper has now moved to a motorcycle to do his job. :grinning:
    2) Same with the doodh wala. They no more carry those huge bags, struggle and come. Happily they finish their delivery by zooming in their two wheeler.
    3) Two old uncles walking beside me in the park had this conversation. One said "do u know how much I paid for one plate idli sambhar and chutney, vada with one filter coffee " . In my mind I thought uncle would have paid around Rs 100. But his next statement he said "I paid 540" . My jaws dropped so was other uncle's jaws. :mask::mask: uncle must be definitely referring to a breakfast at a Star hotel.
    How times have changed!

Finished the work and day chores and leisurely enjoyed your snippet.. :grinning::grinning:
