Good suggestions. At two of the gyms I went to a while ago, long time instructors openly asked also long-time regular exercising folks if they'd like to take over some of the days. From what I recall, they only needed to have a CPR certification and another one from Red Cross. Worth asking at the fitness centers as suggested.

Actually a good idea - getting involved with politics at the basic level. My first exposure to the political system in the U.S. was when same gender marriage came up on the ballot in my state. Campaigned for it outside our local school premises. It put a strain on some friendships. : )

Also, the Census Bureau is hiring thousands of temporary workers for the 2020 head count. Their hours are flexible. If child is not in school during some of those hours, maybe can take her along if allowed and it'll be a good experience for her too.

@anika987 - Any meal plans, recipes etc will be very helpful. Since you seem to cook a lot from scratch and take care of what you eat, which is 80% of weight loss and keeping it away, it will be helpful for posters if you post some tried and tested meal plans and recipes. I love variety and am easily bored of eating the same food and am looking for some inspiration myself.

    Can u clarify one thing...
    Regarding dinner...
I agree that rice with moong dal is easily digestible..
But why do so many people ( including my mother and also one general physician whom I consulted for my thyroid) advice to avoid eating rice at night as it ll cause weight gain?
Is it ok to eat small quantity of rice or curd rice with sabji at night?
Can I eat dosa at night , I.e 2-3 small dosas with very less oil ?only 1 or 2 days a week...
During college days I used to eat rice at night most of the time and was still of correct weight and not overweight...now that I'm overweight I'm scared of eating more rice, and even when I tried eating rotis instead of rice i never reduced a single kilo...
Maybe culprit is not rice? Rather the slowing metabolism?
Sometimes rice is easier to make as making rotis involves more effort of kneading atta, rolling and cooking phulkas on tawa and flame..

Culprit is not rice and it is more easily digestible than roti in night.Handpounded is supposed to be best but I go for regular white rice. Also, though good food is healthy..quantity matters.Rasam is also good.I also soak my dals for few hours before steaming.

I personally eat dosa, curd rice too but finish dinner early and again my physical activity is quite high.Everything is needed to make weight loss complete.

I do not just depend on workouts but as I had mentioned lot of small changes have made a huge difference. From starting to sleep, drinking water, focusing on eating and most importantly liking what you eat and having it without any guilt.

However..try to finish your dinner early by 6.30 max and you have a solid atleast a minimum 12 hours gap until morning to have breakfast.

As you said metabolism decreases every decade and But definitely weight loss and fit body is achievable at any age.
Determination and small changes in lifestyle will make a noticeable difference in one or two months itself.

    Again,forget the thought process of
Losing weight.Think strong and get stronger.Feel your energy levels.Add strength training.

Do your best. One need not spend hours in the gym to get fit.If you can walk outside, start that.jog for 5 minutes and then walk.Go uphill etc.We can try to lose weight in small ways.Fit is not size zero or just flat abs. It’s more than that.

Also,Feeling energetic, healthy, stronger and is important.Start thinking on those lines.Rest will follow.

Yes will follow the suggestions given by you..as ot is I m used to having an early dinner...6.30 would be too early but i have my dinner around 7pm...max by 7.15...if dinner is too light then a small glass of warm milk with unsweetened cocoa around an hour later...i never indulge in midnight snacking.. so plenty of gap until next days breakfast...
Considering my routine, walking , light home workouts and few household chores maybe practical option for exercise for me...

Anika’s suggestions above are for people who don’t suffer from conditions like thyroid and pcos. For those that have hormonal issues like that, a low carb diet is a better way to go. This is why your doctor wants you to avoid “rice”. You should also look at your overall carb intake - rotis, lentils, milk products, breads all have carbs. You should restrict the carbs in your diet as per your doctor’s suggestions. Your total carb intake in a day can not exceed a certain number. If you use MFP for counting your calories it also helps you track your carbs. Lowering carbs and increasing protein does help with certain conditions along with proper medication. I’m not an authority in insulin resistance so I won’t be able to provide you much more. There are lots of resources out there that can help.
