Someone (Chinese ancestry) says one should meditate number of minutes a day based on their age in years.

    Is this true?

I have been trying 2 to 3 hours meditation daily for past few days, but am frustrated tat it is cutting into already tight schedule.

    Any advice?

    25 Views and no feedback?

By the way, I do breathing meditation.

I close my eyes and count each time I do deep breathing, i.e. breathe from diaphragm.

Three hours seem like a very long time.

Tough to sit for so many hours, close the eyes and do meditation.
Try kirtan kriya.a wonderful 11 minute meditation.check out YouTube

    Thank you so much Dear!

At most, I can meditate an hour at a time. I count number of diaphragm breaths I make. But for some reason at 30 minute or so mark (I know because it takes 30 minutes to make 500 breaths), I start to lose focus on breathing.

Yesterday I started getting sad depressing thoughts, probably caused by over-meditation. I imagined having a baby who I loved so much, yet she would stop at nothing to try to harm me ---- and this is less than a one year old. No matter how much I hugged her and prayed for her she just hated me.

Today I did 40 minute meditation. Right now I am craving some more meditation, but I got lots of work to do.

My problem is focus, hence work around the house doesn't get done on time.

Most days I am home-bound due to the bouts of pruritus, i.e. body itch due to dry skin (still lingering on).

Even then it's hard for me to venture out beyond office.

you are doing great . it took me a month to even do 20 min. i just had a severe anxiety feeling suddenly after 15 mins, i do not know how to describe. when i joined this yoga class, the teacher used to talk about mindfullness. he said it is ok, to get those feelings. because those feelings have always been there.

you are fine. those depression feelings have always been there , you just never realized . meditation makes more stronger, because now you are observing yourself.

keep doing. your target of long hours, is something i am not with. I would do as long as you feel like doing it.

read or watch a lot about mindfullness.

    I think you are right.

It is good your teacher assurred you these feelings are normal. And wow, they were already there? I suppose that explains a lot of things in my life.

Today I was thinking about that angry baby who wanted to harm me no matter how much I loved her and just started to cry.

I think the purpose of Life is to attain Moksha. We have human, carnal desires. It is best we use those carnal desires to marry nice person. Husband and Wife should help each other attain Moksha.

Any soul with the Karma to be born in Human family must be guided by Mother and Father to attain Moksha.

Coming to that angry baby who I love, but who wants to harm me. I was thinking that let the baby hate and harm me, if it gives the baby peace and happiness. All I want is for baby to be happy and attain Moksha.

I feel like doing hour meditation at once instead of 40 minutes, but I'm unsure how I would handle more intense feelings, should they arise.

i would suggest you to read or watch more on mindfullness. i have a feeling you are over complicating. in short being mindfull is where you will have good and bad thoughts all the time, your task is just to observe them without any judgment and emotion. and let them go, instead of holding them. and as you grow up more in your practice you are gently focus on specific thoughts or actions.

    That is interesting!

I started reading this (How To Practice Mindfulness Meditation - Mindful), and I believe it is what I am doing (well, at least this morning), i.e. when I meditate, if my mind trails off, gently focus back on breath.

I'd like to focus more on happy thoughts and actions.
