Our little one is in a new preschool - smallish center that's in between home daycare and professional preschool. There are about 6 teachers each with a small class of students of their own. A few times a week the teachers swap classes for short periods - due to circumstances or pool their students together because some teacher has prep work or personal work.

We are working on a hand-written note by me and a drawing (with help) by kid for each of the teachers.

I would like to add a gift card for each of the teachers. Please suggest amounts (or ranges) for primary teacher and other teachers in school. I wouldn't want to overdo/underdo it and make these new "relationships" uncomfortable/inappropriate in anyway. Also any suggestions on which gift card to go for: Amazon/Starbucks/Target/Michaels or any other place?

Note: I do like the teachers a lot - they are warm, friendly and greet us with a smile every morning. They do a good job of taking care of the kids.

$25 Amazon for the primary teacher. $10 Starbucks for the rest.

I'd actually make it a bit higher for the primary and skip the rest. Just giving each of them a gift could make it seem like overdoing. But you know the school best.

Thank you @Rihana - I was wishing you would answer. It is my first-time foray in this sort of thing. Never grew up giving teachers gifts other than writing poems for them :) or sweet treats for the ones who were special mentors to me for some milestone (first job, graduation).

The school owner who doesn't speak much recently chatted with me and talked of how difficult it is to retain teachers. And how she tries to pay them above market rate - but we live in a high-cost of living city and it is really hard for the teachers. So my estimate was ~4x of what you said - please don't beat me up. :smash2: A local parenting group suggested 1 day's pay as bonus so that was my ballpark given that the class sizes are quite small in this school (and some parents may or may not know of this practice in the US). I'll tone it down and wait for others to give some numbers they think are reasonable. I was also going to give the gift in private so that it doesn't peer-pressure others.

Are there gift cards that can be redeemed for money ?
Some cards go half way -- allowing shopping in any store.
Like the amazon-pay card that Rihana had mentioned.

if nice caring teachers 25/50 main class teacher and maybe 25 for some others and bus driver etc.
They do so much and deserve some holiday cheer. Err on side of generous, wont harm, an extra 100 spent in total in the end can be worth it

I agree. I give cash as its the easiest to spend. Many parents in our area divide a week’s tuition among the staff. If you’re doing Amazon or Target make sure the teachers shop there. Some may not have cars and may not be able to shop at certain stores. I’d skip Starbucks.

Yes, $25 for primary teacher sounds a bit low. Those were figures from a while back. Adjusted for inflation $50 and $25 sound better. If the teacher is really good, going higher is a good idea too.

I am thinking of giving cash to day care teachers . 60 for two teachers and maybe 40 for the others in the class . there are total 6 who rotate through out the week. i can put the cash in envelopes and give like that. If I were to buy cookies or chocolates how do you pack it for gift bags. I mean some small bags , ziplocs etc like holiday packing . where you buy from , is it very expensive ? I personally prefer giving more cash instead of spending on those eatables but only since its a norm , doing that.
