    Hello

I want to ask all ladies living abroad married, single, divorced what do you do when you are very sick? Lot of women must have experienced during pregnancy this situation? Even when you have flue or any pain you cannot move but you need to feed yourself, many times kids. You might need someone around to give you warm water, medicine, comfort you...

It’s extremely hard when providing for the family as well as taking care of oneself in extremely sick timez. I push myself to do my best and stay in bed with a flask of hot liquids or whatever I need. When meds time ask for it and lay in bed until feel better.

@ProudIndian It is very essential you have some paid emergency help. This happens to many people in this country. Build relationship with people around you. Order food from outside. Ignore other things and just focus on recovering by sleeping as much as you can. Hope you feel better soon

You move like the zombie, and do the best you can. Overdose on OTC drugs, and then rest. Spouse has to take a day off when it is too difficult to get up, and go to the medical clinic.
When children are older (>12 yrs) it is a bit easier, because they can boil water in the kitchen without causing accidents.

Women have been known to go to extraordinary lengths..... here is a scene from a movie:
Tampopo - Husband forces dying wife to cook

Is it true that you recover from (the common) colds only after you pass it on to someone else?

First of all, I try to stay positive when sick. All thoughts creep in at this time so good to keep that in check. I always stock of organic Tomato soup from Trader Joes so its just heat and eat to get instant energy. Rest is the main key. I have phone numbers of few people who cook fresh food so it works well esp the idli batter.

If I am with my H and kids, then no matter wherever I reside, I would consider myself as I am living with my family. That means, I am not alone.
In this circumstance, if I am sick, my H is expected to take leave, and do the chores and child care activities in the house/outside. Also, he is expected to take care of me, and my health like Dr visits, giving medicines, or making hot soups/coffee etc.
But for the household chores, we would obviously get help from outside. Or a close family friend or so would come and do the basics once in 2-3 days.
Because in our case, H is good at basic cooking, and laundry. Nothing more.

But if i am alone in an alien country (no family with me), then I would completely resort for help from my office. The work colleagues and whoever related to my work base is the only support system I could rely on.
I would call them for help.
Then depend on them to hire for other helpers (like a nurse, or cleaner or outside food or whatever).

I have a few emergency sitters that I call. Most of them work elsewhere during the day. I end up driving my son to school and therapies. I rely on the kindness of therapists and of course my older kid to help out with my son. My DD cooks and will make something for me and her brother and take care of him completely when I’m sick. I fend for myself wrt meds etc. Lately, I’ve used favor to buy some hot soups or meds from the store for me. That helps tremendously.
Ironically, I tend to get better by the time my DH gets back in town. There had only been a handful of instances where he has been around. If he is around, then I do get all the TLC++.
