    Dear Ilites,

    I have been biting my nails for so long (i think it started when I was in elementary school). This happens when I get stressed, or thinking intensively about something. On weekends, no nail biting, but in office I bite a lot. But it won't get to the point where my fingers hurt or bleed. But my nails are not pretty. I would be happy if they look decent. I would like to stop them (very much). but so far no success. I tried motivational stuff, the bitter nail stuff, keeping notes on my desk, have an elastic on my wrist and snap it, etc. Nothing works! I have stopped nail biting for some period of time ( since last may - mid september), now all those nails are bitten off. It is irritating to have jagged edges for my nails, but I keep doing it. please help!! If any one has any experience on this topic please share and please tell me how to get rid of this habit!!

    :hello:It appears to be very simple to overcome the problem of nail biting. yet it is shown in celluloid as a mannerism. It adds to the elan of heroine in the movies.
    Just think you don’t have nails to bite. I hope your talking about nails in your fingers.
    2. One has to make it a habit to clip the nails during the week end. Immediately after bath, wet nails would facilitate Easy clipping.

    3. One would use the tiny files to smoothen out the clipped ends.
    4. But for those who would like to have the cake and eat it too, then one can think of substituting the habit with a pen or pencil.
    5. My spouse says she would not grow long nails as it would gather muck, dirt and bacteria which when eating sambar- rasam -curd -bath, kheer etc with hand would find its way to guts/stomach. Clipping the nails and washing hands before I commence eating she would insist.

    I've the same habbit and what works for me is gel manicure.
    your nails will look so beautiful and gel makes it thick and hard to eat.

    Trust me you will love your hands, Total win-win situation :D :D

    I never get to grow my nails to paint. They are so small. Do you get them painted as soon as they grow and get manicures?

    Try acrylic then, they will add artificial nails to make it big. They do gel manicures on top of it.

    You will not have the danger of getting addicted to the taste of acrylics, because they are pretty hard to chew on.
    However, if your participation in the IL forum drops off, we'd suspect you have had your new nails put on, and getting used to them. Try the small sizes at first. Longish shapes (like ovals) are the hardest to get used to.

    I second all the manicure suggestion.

    Another thing that has worked for me --

    https://www.amazon.com/Mavala-Switz...jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

    you can apply on your nails and it is non-toxic but tastes so bad that you will stop yourself from biting as soon as you get the taste

    Thank you all for the suggestions. I will try acrylic nails. This is the only one option I haven't tried yet!
