People need to eat protein. For the poor people who cannot afford lentils, what they catch is how they get their proteins. There are youtube videos of Tamil speaking fishermen, and about how they cook on board their boats. The fisherman cooking conch-snails and eating it made me rather sad -- even though I couldn't understand much of their talk, I can see that it is a tough living with meagre earnings.

People need protein in their diets. Poor people can buy the cheaper parts of slaughtered animals, or hunt their own. They cannot afford the proteins of vegetarians.

    On the shore...

Happy that they stick to their roots and don't move to the cities to suffer more in other ways.

After watching the Tamil Villagers cook mutton stirfry with peppers, I remembered Nigella Lawson's "I like chili's; I like food that can bite back"..... She is a BBC food writer, critic, and presenter. This is her way of cooking mutton. @Anusha2917:

    Mutton is so Indian.
I understand in the west it's protein and different varieties of protein like beef, pork, kangaroo , lamb etc etc
    And sea food separately genre.

Chicken being a protein but comes under poultry.

Here in India it's mutton chicken and fish.
And mutton is mostly Goat. At times sheep /lamb.

In fact I hate Nigella Lawson.... because she is so .... oh well... all the boys like her to be dipped in egg-white, breaded, and deep fried so that they can eat her.
Recently there was a mention of Maori (Newzealand indigenous people) eating people in an IL forum thread. I think everybody wants to eat people, but only the plump, and juicy people like NL.

Since we are discussing protein here : One of my favorite Instagrammer is a vegan. She goes on to prove vegan sources are enough to give the required amount of protein to our body. But I can't eat the amount of vegetables she eats. I mean she's literally a cow.

Hi Amulet! Maybe I am reading this out of context and not understanding this ^^

Dal/Beans price is usually much less than that of chicken/mutton/fish, no?
Just checking online on Big basket (I know real prices will be much less than this):
    Dal per kilo: Rs. 120
Chicken per kilo: Rs. 350 (And I know chicken is always cheaper than mutton or fish)

I thought the reason to go for meats (if you do eat meat) is that it is much more satisfying and not because it is cheaper.

Why is it much more satisfying? - I don't know scientifically and would really wish to know. Nutritional density which satisfies our genetic coding to survive/thrive?
