I agree with Meena. Education is not put to use only when you work & earn money. It helps you be a better person, better wife & better mom. I am a happy homemaker & a full time mom of a wonderful daughter. My daughter is a smart, well informed & happy child & thats because I am there to teach her about everything & that is possible only because of my education. So I can't see where the education is being wasted.

My mom is also a first class graduate who was a stay at home mom. My brother & I wouldn't be what we are today if not for my mom's education. As my Dad had a travelling job, it was always our mom who helped us with our school work & also guided us in choosing subjects for higher education. Education doesn't have to always translate to money, it can also show in how efficiently the home is managed and how happy its members are.

Don't see the logic where women do someone's work & get paid for it & feel very happy about it but feel insulted when they do their own housework. JMO.

I always resented staying at home. Its been nearly a decade since I have worked. My daughter is a really sensitive child, she could never cope with outside carers. I had started to find staying at home really challenging. I couldn't also occupy myself with mindless socialising. But from last a few years I have started to feel really good about being a home maker. Yoga and meditation really helped me have a better view of reality. Now I love spending quality time at home, with my not so little little one. I don't think I would have it any other way now. I volunteer a lot as well. I love to read. My husband is also a reader but these days he rarely gets any time to read, so when he is working from home my fav past time is enjoy a cuppa with him and narrate things to him from books. I have started to value many things a lot like spending quality time with dh and daughter when they are home. Doing yoga and meditation with husband and daughter, it has brought a lot of harmony in our home and relationships. My DD is not even 10 and she meditates beautifully, her teacher often tells me that she is the most calm child in the class. I don't think I could do it if I was working outside, because I have a lazy side as well. I can only do things when I have plenty of time on my hand. I also volunteer at a Buddhist temple which helps me spend time in the company of really wise beings. I used to volunteer at a children's hospital which made me get in touch with the compassionate side of me. My husband has really climbed up the ladder of career and he could do it because he doesn't have to worry about things at home. Being a home maker also helps spend plenty of time with parents in India. Now I feel My education and work before being a home maker really helped me take wise decisions now.

True I have been asked this question count less times, why at home ? Daughter is big now? Looks like you have become lazy ? Ahh it's fun spending husband's money, why do you volunteer, why don't you just work and make some money? I mean seariously. All this came from women. Its so hard for us to accept if some one makes a different choice.

I love your response, though i am not a homemaker in the strict sense of it, i do yearn to have the flexibility to spend my time in my own manner.
I think it never is about being a homemaker or not... it's about the person and how productively you engage yourself.
Working , in the general parlance, is about spending time productively.
But perhaps more than average, it really signifies a productive/constructive/structured way to engage yourself vis a vis also making money.
If you really want/earn your time and flexibility and are able to realise higher goals by not working, so isn't it enhanced productivity?
Just a disclaimer that am not trying to demean those who do need the financial benefits too, i really don't mean to. If it helps, am also a working woman.

You hit the nail here. Its always about how productively you use your time and also one size does not fit all. For some working outside is absolutely necessary for very obvious reasons and for some staying at home becomes mandatory for what ever reasons. Its should always be what works best for you. Over the years I have realised that guilt walks side by side specially to women. I always found myself guilty of staying at home not contributing financially to the family and at the same time I meet some wonderful working women who are balancing everything so well well feel guilty of not being enough with family. So I feel what ever works.
