One of my favorite shampoo is tamarind, soak old tamarind(looks black) in water overnight or in hot water for sometime.Squeeze and extract the pulp and use as shampoo. This tip was given by Dr Elchuri,a secret of tribal women for their long lustrous dark hair even in their late years! I use this one especially when I am traveling. You can use this if you are worried about the purity of amla-reeta-shikakai powders.

You can freeze the black tamarind pulp in ice trays, remove once frozen and save them in a box or a zip lock bag in the freezer and use as needed at home. You can easily find old tamarind in Indian and middle eastern stores in USA.

Do we need to paste it and leave overnight or leave it overnight and grind it in the morning?

Add 3 to 5 spoons to little hot boiling water, mix well into a paste and let overnight. In the morning grind this into a smooth creamy paste.Use this shampoo and save any leftovers in the fridge for later use (to be used within a week).

Some brands are not good, either adulterated or outright faked or very old by the time you get them. I wouldn't touch anything Hesh makes with a ten foot pole, they have a looooong history of selling contaminated goods (as in rat feces and bacterial contamination) and were actually being turned back at US ports for awhile after repeated warnings going back decades were routinely and totally ignored. Supposedly they have cleaned up their act but given a long history of ignoring the health and safety of their victims ... errr, "customers", I don't trust them any further than I could throw a 500 lb weight. I'll stick to local Indian groceries (in the food section only) and secondarily Amazon for what I can't find there.

I get amla powder either at an Indian grocery in the food section (NOT Hesh, this is for consumption) or Terrasoul brand on Amazon.

For most everything else I get MB brand powders. There is also Mountain Rose Herbs in the US though I have heard one account claiming the soapnuts they sell are the wrong variety. Haven't checked in to that claim. I get my soapnut powder from MB on amazon at the moment. They have whole soapnuts at my local Indian grocery but they are really expensive so I just do the powder instead. It is labeled as the proper variety. I haven't used the soapnut powder yet (well I did mix a batch of the liquid up but I came down with what I am pretty sure was covid right after, left it sitting out, and by the time I was better it had gone off). At any rate everything else I got from MB has been good so I'm not worried about the quality.

I have used an amla/hibiscus rinse made with MB hibiscus powder fairly regularly with good results. Also I use methi (fenugreek) seed that can be sourced anywhere you can find it - the stuff from the Indian grocery is fine so that's what I usually use.

MB herbs I have (all powdered) include
    Brahmi
    Bhringraj
    rose petals
    Hibiscus flower
    Shikakai
    Soapnut/reetha
    aloe vera
neem (medicinal azadirachta indica, not sweet neem aka curry leaf)

I also have several types of Tulsi that I actually use to make tea (4 parts real tea plus 1 part tulsi) but tulsi is very volatile and if your tulsi isn't dead fresh it loses the clove flavor component altogether. I don't think most USians have any idea what tulsi OUGHT to taste like (in fact whenever I've mentioned tulsi tea to an Indian person recently they haven't known what I was talking about either, but then most of them were nowhere near my age which may make a difference). So I don't think anyone but me and a few other dinosaurs notices. I feel pretty safe with tulsi tea from Trader Joe's (though I don't find it on the shelves since Covid) and the Organic India. Trader Joe's only comes in individually wrapped foil-lined tea bags so too expensive (and too hard to find) for hair remedies. I was lucky enough to snag some uber fresh TJ's tulsi tea awhile back and it took me quite a few cups to figure out that haunting flavor (from the eugenol) because it had been so long since I'd had good tulsi. But subsequent batches had already lost that flavor component *sigh*. It doesn't taste like clove exactly because there is other stuff in cloves than just eugenol that make up its flavor profile, but the eugenol in good fresh tulsi gives tulsi tea a flavor that is reminiscent of clove without actually BEING clove.

You can get the Organic India in a 1 lb bag. It makes a pretty good tea (though lacking the eugenol flavor component if not dead fresh). Tulsi is supposed to be good for making hair treatments as well as drinking it as a tea.

There is also arappu available on Amazon that I have not tried yet, it is from a different brand, "Foodherbs". Reviews are good but ... reviews can be faked. I did note a lot of requests in the questions section for availability during this pandemic and I don't THINK fakers usually go to that extent (of fake questions) but buyer beware.

Sometimes hair follicles are weak at the root itself so if you scrub with all herbal stuff, hair fall will definitely increase. Make a tea/rinse of the ingredients and apply on scalp.
