To make home made shampoo I mixed Hesh brand - Amla,Reeta, shikakai along with powdered fenugreek seeds in equal amounts and stored in a glass jar.

I also bought Hesh neem, bringaraj,Godrej Nupur henna, Ancient Veda amla powders These are available in Indian stores and Amazon. These brands provide pure quality.Alternatively You can buy whole reeta balls (soap nuts),shikakai pods, dried amla pieces on amazon. Some people in USA are using soap nuts as a substitute to laundry detergent.

Kalonji (onion seeds/black seeds) is used to temper Hyderabad’s dishes like bagara baingan, mirchi ka salan. It is mainly used by Arabic cultures in curing several diseases, they say that it has a cure for every disease except death. You can easily find these seeds in Indian and middle eastern stores. A night before usage powder 2 tbsp kalonji seeds with 2 tbsp fenugreek seeds and soak in water overnight. You will notice that the mixture has thicken up, grind again into a very smooth paste. Apply to scalp and hair leave for at least 30 mins to an hour and wash with a home made shampoo.Repeat once or twice a week for a month to control hair fall, continue using it if you are looking for hair regrowth.

Mix 100 grams each of powdered Amla, reeta, shikakai, fenugreek seeds and store in a glass jar. A night before head bath mix 3-5 spoons powder (depending on your hair length) with little hot water in a small mixie jar into a paste, leave overnight and grind into a smooth paste.Wet hair and apply the paste to the scalp, gently scrub and rinse with cold or Luke warm water only.Dry the hair naturally (no blow dryers plz). Repeat once or twice a week.As you wash you will understand how much paste to use to get rid of oil and dirt, this doesn’t foam much due to the absence of sulfate (chemically made foaming agent found in all store bought shampoos) but will cleanse your scalp well.I added Fenugreek seeds to the traditional amla-reeta-shikakai as it is a natural hair conditioner, helps control hair fall, eliminates dandruff and other infections.

I like Now brand sweet almond oil, available in amazon and in stores. It’s great for skin and hair. What ever oil you are using make sure it’s cold pressed (better than expeller pressed as it retains more nutrients) and unrefined product.

A friend from Kerala suggested using coconut oil made from coconut milk.Luckily I found Jiva organic foods coconut oil in Indian store (made from coconut milk and not copra). I tried this and it really works. It helped arrest hair fall, I also used it to make aloe Vera hair oil which also improved my hair texture. Aloe Vera For Healthy And Beautiful Hair

My other favorite oil is made with hibiscus

    Hibiscus hair oil
Mix equal amount of red hibiscus petal powder and unrefined coconut oil and
store in a glass jar.Luke warm little oil and massage it into the scalp every night before bed time, wash with a herbal ayurveda shampoo twice a week. This results in shiny and silky hair growth.

You can find dried red hibiscus flowers in stores like Walmart, middle eastern stores and amazon. People use it to make tea.Simply powder the flowers to make the oil.

Do not switch to different oils frequently, you need to give it some time to work. Just stick to one oil (a single carrier oil like coconut/almond/olive/sesame or certain combination of carrier oils or a herbal oil) for at least 3 months to notice results.Luke warm the oil and massage your scalp gently for good penetration.Check this out Oiling Your Scalp The Right Way
