A secular government would have distanced and condemned hardcore Hindu fanaticism perpetuated by RSS. Let’s not put ourselves on a pedestal , we are equally guilty of religious extremism like the other minority community. Silencing opposing views in the form of curfew and house arrests is a hallmark of dictatorial regimes. Healthy Democracy has no room for glorification of an individual, there are no superstars. We had the Gandhi family with congress and it is no different now, with BJP.
It is not that kps don’t have any voice , they do and are quite vocal . Kps don’t need anybody else to talk about them , they do it very well themselves. They don’t need Anupam Kher types to speak about them We also need to be listening to KPs who stay put in valley , kps who fled received some assistance even though it is very minimal , kps who stayed put did not get anything. and we also have to speak about thousands of KMs who got killed in insurgency ....if they were able to, they would have stood up for themselves in the face of insurgency ... .. we cannot just think only of kps and leave every one out ... Yes , some kps if at all , will go back when everything is hunky Dory in Kashmir ...
WhatsApp education is the source Indian public is not bothered as long as issue does not come to their doorstep ... it will act when onion becomes 200 or dal becomes 400 and their job is at stake ...
I am not putting anyone on any pedestal. Things have happened that should not have happened. Hindus have done some sh!t too and we have condemned it openly. I disagree with organizations like the VHP and their violent protests against the kind of clothes people can wear or how they express their love. Views can be silenced in many ways. Curfews, house arrests or simply turning people against certain people by propagating lies. A lie yelled spoken loudly a hundred times becomes the truth. The congress and their cronies made RSS the scape goat. How many people know the RSS is involved in nation building activities? teaching SAnskrit or making people aware of our ancient culture is now unacceptable under the guise of 'secularism'. Glorification of an individual? So if you appreciate someone taking steps for the public good, that is unacceptable glorification, but it is perfectly okay to demonize the same guy for unfortunate things. Perhaps we must drag him down because how dare he do something for his people? which is happening nevertheless, as we speak
The glorification of Modi ? And what do they get? I don't think Modi rewards sycophants around him; in fact the current NSA Ajit Doval has criticized him in his blog, yet he got his post because he is a man reputed for being a task master. And this has often been repeated, he rose from ground up, to be a leader of a party and a country. That is the sign of a healthy functioning democracy; not Sonia's return to Congress (lol, incapable son replaced by his more incapable mom) which shows congress as a party being run by family worship because otherwise it would shatter into pieces. Just pointing out to this forum this blaring hypocrisy of the journalist/elite: anyone can criticize the ills of hindu (& christian) community and keep going on with their usual lives. Say something about muslims and then comes the charge of the light brigade. And this hypocrisy is not just here; it's the same in the west; the rise of Trump, Bolsonaro Modi and Duterte is only because people are fed up of the 'all talk, no action' champions of liberalism. That Modi and Duterte keep winning again is always 'baffling' to these folks because their brains haven't cooked a reason yet.
It is not hypocrisy and it is democracy. The press is considered as enemy only in Russia earlier and now in America, many western countries and India as well, thanks to the influence of Russia. That attitude I call as autocracy. They don't respect the views of the well-being of people, not even the elected members of the legislature but only their views are considered superior. It is the blind faith on the religion and love for someone who is promoting the values of one religion that makes the people tolerate the mistakes, forgive them again and again and keep electing them. It also helps countries to be divided by religion so that they can't build a bridge and think together in the interest of the nation. It is white supremacy in the US and many western countries and it is blind Hindu nationalism in India. That is the difference.
Let’s be honest. No one gave a damn about KP’s. Now they are suddenly being used as a justification of what’s happening in Kashmir.
This is not a healthy functioning democracy. The party in power caters to the anti-Muslim sentiments of the Hindu majority in India and that is why it got elected. That is the unfortunate truth. Wherever this team has been in power, there has been a rise of hard core Hindu nationalism and suppression of minorities. It’s high time we stop using the inefficiency of Congress ( and the Gandhi family) as an excuse to accept and glorify anyone else. I have been a minority in India ( and abroad) and know what it is like to live in fear. I do not wish it upon anyone .
Rhoteric such as "say something about Muslims and see what happens" is a talking point from BJP agenda. The religious minority needs organizations to represent them. Country can't promote agenda that excludes 15% of the population. Why no one questions hindu majority who have organized groups such as VHP and RSS? These groups have no purpose other than influencing the government to rule terrorizing the minority through actions. Majority of Muslims in India have nicely integrated with India. Why should we generalize a religion for a small group of terrorist organization?
