Whenever I get the intense fear plus panic, I try to calm myself down with some breathing. That doesn't usually work, so then I do physical activity. This would be going up and down the stairs or fast walking around the house (or outside). After the physical activity, I lie down to process my thoughts. I start with the feeling I experienced, what I believe may the be cause, and why it has bothered me so. I write these down, to help me...and after a week, I was able to control this.

Its worth a shot, if you are still experiencing this reaction.

    Do I practise? Yes.
    Am I systematically taught? No.
A little instruction at home growing up, and then lectures, books (the literature in print is very good), yoga. The practice is deceptively simple, but difficult to sustain; however, when I do manage to pull it off, it helps me maintain my focus as I work. The goal need not be anything as elevated as enlightenment or realizing one's Buddha nature, but just a tangible improvement in the quality of life and mind. :wink1:

In Pali, it is "Vipassana Bhavana" (from the "Satipatthana Suta" - same as 'Sutra') - in English, many variations of "mindfulness" or "insight meditation" or "bare attention" depending on who is doing the teaching. The point of focus is just technique - the goal is the same. Focusing on a steady awareness of bodily sensation is a technique used to help patients with chronic ailments and for stress reduction. It has some research support behind it.

If a lot of physical symptoms are involved, then it’s a panic attack

Once in a while anxiety is okay. Not sure why we have it, may be an evolutionary mechanism

Our female hormones and up and down- of it, makes it worse

Is it Vipassana, as taught in the ten days courses at permanent residential centres ?

I have not been to any course, ten-day or otherwise. Books are helpful enough. What the retreats offer is a community, temporary (& probably much needed!) respite from the daily grind, escape from digital noise, and a period of focus - for the duration of the retreat, you're there to be mindful. Ignoring all that, books are sufficiently instructive.
