Anyone here makes homemade hair oil or something like mixing multiple hair oils along with some herbal products?

I was reading about onion hair oil to grow back the lost hair, I did try and notice some results, but the onion in the oil smells very strong. I have a habit of leaving oil in hair for a day and going to work and I feel like people here in US might hate the smell and run away from me lol.

I am looking for some ways to add scent to my oil. Some people put hibiscus and rose petals in it, but it's difficult to get those here. Any other ways to naturally add scent the hair oil?

I make a mix of castor oil, olive oil along with coconut oil. I think for fragrance you can try adding few drops of eucalyptus oil.

I have tried adding other herbs to the onion hair oil but nothing worked in beating the odor. You can switch to this aromatic hair oil that will help regrow lost hair.I am using this for my family and its great. You can also use onion juice as a hair pack, leave it on for 30 mins and wash with a herbal shampoo powder.Repeat this pack twice a week for at least 3 months to notice results.
Some people mix 10-15 drops of essential oil(rosemary or lavender) with a tbsp of base oil such as coconut oil or sesame oil and use as a hair oil.

I wasn't sure if we can put eucalyptus oil in hair. Have never heard of anyone using it in hair. But if you are using it, I can give it a try.

I was initially applying fresh onion juice, but juicing it everytime was time consuming, so I came across onion oil and tried that. I had long lustrous hair and am hardly left with any now due to stress. Need to regrow the hair.

Eucalyptus essential oil promotes hair growth and relieves from itchy scalp.I add it to my henna hair pack.Adding a tsp of Eucalyptus essential oil while soaking henna not only helps in giving a darker shade but also helps in overpowering the egg odor.Like most essential oils, it’s important to dilute 10-15 drops of eucalyptus essential oil in a tbsp of carrier oil such as coconut oil or black sesame oil before applying it directly to the scalp.

I might just add the small bottle of eucalyptus oil to the mixture of all oils that I have. I will add it after heating the oil and once it cools down. I am also thinking to add aloe vera this time to the oil.

You can try the hair oil I mentioned in this thread. Its very aromatic.Since we dont find fresh amla in US,I used frozen amla pieces (from Indian stores) in making this oil.You can also try one of these hair packs.

For thick and long hair growth
Soak and cook urad dal till soft.Let cool and grind into a smooth paste.Apply to the hair and scalp.leave for sometime and wash. This not only keeps the dandruff at bay and cures other hair issues but also lengthens the hair to a maximum level.

Ayurvedic hair pack for strong, dense and healthy hair growth
Mix 1 tsp shikakai powder, 1 tsp amla powder with a cup of curds.Marinate for 12 hours.Apply to scalp and hair.Leave for an hour.Wash hair with cold or luke warm water.

Apart from external applications diet also plays an important role. You can try these.

Mix 20 gms of finely chopped fresh (raw) radish with 3 pinches of black pepper powder and 3 pinches of salt.Eat twice a day.If unable to eat,add little honey for taste and eat twice a day(morning and evening),can also be taken with rice.Repeat everyday for few months. This strengthens the hair roots, nourishes the hair and promotes long hair growth. This is popularly known as lamba kesani.

Alternatively try this ayurvedic energy drink - Soak 4 almonds,2 tsps fennel seeds,2 dates or 2 figs (use figs for diabetic patients and for those with weight gain issues), 2 green cardamom in 1 cup water for at least 1 to 2 hours or overnight.Discard the water (this will remove all the heat) and grind into a smooth paste with a glass of milk or fresh water.Drink every morning with your breakfast for at least 2 months. This energy drink for all ages is not only good for health but also helps achieve good vision, glowing skin, healthy & beautiful hair.

Apart from using lamba kesani or energy drink. Its quite helpful if you can also include all or some of the following in your diet.
    • Eat 2 fresh amlas everyday (I eat frozen amla pieces from Indian stores) or 1 tsp amla powder twice a day (morning n evening).Amla acts as an anti aging agent and helps in resolving all hair issues including in controlling hair greying, alternatively you can include amla in the form of chutney, subzi, muraba in your diet.
    • Include nuts like almonds and walnuts, seeds such as white or black sesame seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds and fresh coconut in your diet for beautiful, soft and shiny hair.Sesame seeds can be included in your diet in the form of a chutney or karam podi or sesame jaggery ladoo.Flax seeds in the form of flax seed karam podi or simply sprinkle a few flax seeds over your salad or food. You can add roasted pumpkin seeds to your salad or murmura mixture.
    • Include leafy vegetables like spinach in your diet.
    • Consuming 1 ladoo per day made with sesame seeds and jaggery (no sugar) helps resolve all hair issues.
I learnt about mind body connection from an Ayurvedic specialist.Fitness expert Jillian Michaels talks about it too. When you start an Ayurvedic regimen with a strong positive mind it does wonders even though it may take time (3-6 months) to give complete results.Sit in sukhasana posture, close your eyes and visualise your scalp with locks of silky and thick hair growth.Do this for 10 minutes daily.Hair regrows.

There are some mudhras that you can also do for healthy hair such as Prudhvi Mudhra and balayam (nail rubbing). You can perform these mudhras everyday for 2-3 mins. These are very simple and doable. Please browse these online on how to do these correctly if interested.Good luck!

Note - Consult your family physician if these remedies do not work even after trying for 3-6 months, there could be an internal problem (such as thyriod or hormonal issues) that needs to be dealt.

If you live in the west coast you can easily get large Aloe vera leaves from grocery stores like Whole foods,Jimbo's.I get one large leaf for 2-3$

Tried and Tested Aloe Vera Hair Oil

Wash an Aloe Vera leaf, peel the skin and scoop out the gel.I prefer grinding the aloe vera gel to get rid of the chunks.Mix equal amounts of Aloe Vera gel and organic unrefined coconut oil (I used Jiva Organics virgin coconut oil which is made from coconut milk) in a wide pan.Cook on a slow flame till all the gooey stuff vanishes, moisture evaporates and oil remains.Remove, cool, strain and store in a glass jar.Luke warm little oil and apply to scalp everyday. This cools the scalp, eliminates dandruff, controls hair fall resulting in hair growth.Don't forget to do a hotel towel treatment before taking a head bath for best results.Have a look at this video which demonstrates the recipe.DIY Aloevera Hair Oil | Indusladies

You can try adding few drops of any one of these essential oils like Eucalyptus or Rosemary or Lavender oil to some warmed Aloe Vera hair oil just before applying. These essential oils are good for hair. You can check this thread - Aloe Vera For Healthy And Beautiful Hair

Grating an onion is obviously time consuming.I roughly chop a white onion into dices and grind into a smooth paste using a mixie jar.I then use a tea strainer to extract the juice. This does not take more than 2-3 mins.I have been doing this almost everyday to grow hair on my hubby's bald head. You can use this method twice a week.
