I am starting this thread for space related questions.
Every question adds a different dimension to the subject matter. Most importantly I learn from them.

Disclaimer: I may not know the answers to all the questions. Some answers may require some time for me to research the answers.
    (Psst....Please ask simple questions:biggrin:)

    *******************************************************************

The first set of questions is from Sri @Thyagarajan sir.

The sun is young when compared to the age of our universe. However, the sun has reached middle age now.
In another 4-5 billion years our sun will come to an end and so will Earth.

Different stars, including our sun, are all born at different times.
I will explain in more detail in my future articles.,

Professor Hoyle and Dr. Narlikar's work opposes the "Big Bang" theory.
They believe that matter constantly existed and that the Universe did not come from a single point of source, which is what the "Big Bang" theory suggests.
This is my understanding of Prof Hoyle and Dr. Narlikar's work. Honestly, I found all the information too complicated for my simple brain to understand. Maybe one day.

Not a problem, sir. That's why I created this thread.
    Thank you sir.

    Good idea.
"dimension" in the context of space had me smiling. : )

The second set is by @Vedhavalli (her child, to be precise)

Very informative. @kkrish few questions from my 5 yr old kid
I think you are asking about prograde and retrograde rotation.
When a planet spins on its axis from West to East, it is prograde rotation. If observed from above its North pole, the planet will be seen spinning in an anti-clockwise direction. For these planets, the Sun will "rise" in the East. Earth spins in prograde rotation.

When a planet spins on its axis from East to West, it is retrograde rotation. If observed from its North pole, the planet will be seen spinning in a clockwise direction. For these planets the Sun will rise in the West.

Scientists still are not sure why Venus an Uranus spin retrograde.
For Venus, different scientists have different theories.
One group of scientists thinks that Venus must have been hit by another huge object that sent it spinning in the opposite direction.
Another theory is that Venus was spinning prograde, slowed down, stopped, and then started spinning in the opposite direction.

For Uranus also the scientists think that it was struck by another huge object that toppled its axis and made it rotate retrograde.

    :beer-toast1: Good question.
There are many reasons why we learn about planets.
One reason is to find out if any of the planets are like our Earth.
Another reason is to see if humans can travel to the planets, how far they are, if there is place to land, the temperatures, etc.
Another reason is to learn the conditions to see if there can be life existing in the planets.
The more we learn about planets the more we can understand our solar system and also know more about Earth.

Beyond our galaxy, are billions of, a hundred billion, galaxies. Galaxies keep moving away, therefore there is space between them.

Constellations are nothing but imaginary figures that our ancestors drew by connecting some brightly visible stars with lines.
All the these stars are in our Milky Way galaxy.

We cannot see other galaxies without the help of powerful telescopes. They are all so far away. Even our closest galaxy, the Andromeda, is visible as a blur only.

    :D
Sure. Please encourage her. Also let me know if I should simplify my answers more.
(Sorry, I asked if your child is a girl or boy in the other thread. I did not read this last sentence properly)

:hello:Few more I would like to know are:
    1. Where from planets gets force to rotate around it's own in clock wise or anticlockwise or what causes them to move retrograde or prograde. ( I have stray remembrance that late BV RAMAN IN HIS MONTHLY MAGAZINE often MENTIONS in forecast about same planet for certain period in retrograde and for another period in prograde; in later issues the magazine factored in Neptune moments in forecast for various zodiac signs.
    3. The planets that you are talking about and the planets that are spoken of in Hindu astrology- are they one & the same?
    Regards.

    @Thyagarajan Sir
Thank you for asking. No sir, I am not fully out of the woods yet.
We have three days off, hope to get some rest.

All matter in the Universe is under constant motion. Everything in this Universe is Energy. From where this energy originates is the unsolved mystery.

During their formation, all stars and their planetary bodies get energy which is called "angular momentum" which keeps them in motion. (I will touch this in my article on stars)

Not only spinning on their axis, but keeping them revolving around their sun, keeping them in the elliptical plane, and the entire solar system moving around the galaxy. the galaxies moving in the universe... it is this energy.

Prograde rotation is the natural way to rotate - the same direction as their elliptical movement around the sun.
As for why retrograde here is the response I provided earlier.
Scientists still are not sure why Venus an Uranus spin retrograde.
For Venus, different scientists have different theories.
One group of scientists thinks that Venus must have been hit by another huge object that sent it spinning in the opposite direction.

For Uranus also the scientists think that it was struck by another huge object that toppled its axis and made it rotate retrograde.

I do not believe in astrology, sir. So I do not know more than how it evolved.

The Hindu astrology is based on a Geocentric universe.
It considers Sun and Moon as planets. Also the lunar nodes - Raaghu and Ketu as planets.
Therefore we have - Sun, Moon, Raaghu, Ketu, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn as the nine planets.
As mentioned earlier, I know not much about astrology. So I am unable to answer if the Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn referred in astrology are the same as those mentioned in astronomy.

    Thanks for your detailed reply.
God created the universe and or Galaxies in chaos out of energy in motion.

Thank you KKrish for your wonderful answers for the questions raised by Shri Thyagarajan and the child.
I too had the same doubts as that of Shri Thyagarajan. The difference between Space science and vedic astrology does
exist always and they have their own explanations sometimes convincing and sometimes not.
In astrology the calculation part is stunning and almost
correlates to astronomy. I am stunned with amazement about the accuracy in calculations. But prediction part based on the so called impact of those planets on millions of people living in different parts of the globe depending on birth chart of each individual essentially seems to be a probability theory.I shall go through every mail of this thread and in the process all my doubts will be clarified.
I am reminded of a poem by Avvaiyaar,
    " nellukku iraiththa neer
    vaaikkaal vazhi odi
    pullukkum aange posiyumaam"
( The water that is channelised to paddy fields,is also beneficial to the grass that grows by the sides of the field.)The answers given to the valuable questions would also benefit people like me in the process.)

    Thank you @jayasala42 ma'am .

Astronomy in India is as old as the Vedas is what I read. The oldest known text on Astronomy and Astrology is Vedanga Jyotisha written sometime between 1400-1200BC.
There were so many great Indian astronomers - Aryabhatta, Bramhagupta, Varahamira, Bhaskara - who have contributed greatly towards astronomy.
Astronomy and Astrology in India existed side by side. Therefore it is not surprising that the calculations in astrology are accurate.
Exactly ma'am. That is where I too am sceptical.
    Actually applies to me also.
When questions are asked, in the process of finding answers that I do not know, I too hope to learn much more.

I thank you for your kind words ma'am. I look foward to seeing some queries from you also.
