    Hey @Rihana ,

Yup I agree, its a difficult concept to take off on a mass scale! When i was googling to re-search this, i realized it's prevalent a bit in the US too. Confess that it was just a cursory glance at the results that popped up, so didn't look at any other details.

About that, again it's not a guarantee situation, depending on how much the parents have managed to feed in the guilt psychosis in their progeny ;):fearscream: and how much is bought.
also, the clause of it being localised help only stands here too :beer-toast1:

Census today: 20 patients - 5 deaths - 2 new admissions - 4 classified as imminent - We had two volunteers today but we were sharing the front desk responsibility and the request for sitting with patients alternatively. 1 patient visit needed face mask. Many patients had cerebral degeneration due to age, some suffering from cancer, one chronic renal failure, two heart ailments and one unknown protein malfunction. 1 patient was 41 years old and another was 18 years old.

Noticing that this thread is read by very young mothers who I consider as my son's age, I have decided to be careful in presenting my experiences so that it will not affect their positive thinking. Due to that reason I am withholding the diseases suffered by 41 year old and 18 year old.

All 3 hours, we were running around so much today and I am glad I didn't call to cancel the visit due to my upcoming visit to India. There were 4 patient sitting request, 2 admissions, visitors having all kind of requests, copying request, etc. 1 patient was 93 years old considered imminent but was moving around and uttering a few words occasionally though not very audible. The pastor was running around a little probably performing a few more final ceremonies for Catholic patients.

With that I am taking a break and will be back with updates from Saturday, April 27th.

Census Today - 15 patients - 5 deaths - All in the last 12 hours - 1 apparently was a veteran with national flag on top of the body taken out after I reported duty. Unfortunately, my co-volunteer had a stroke and was out recuperating in a hospital. I was all by myself on a day I return to work after 30 days of break. A request for feeding two patients came from a nurse and I was forced to turn it down due to non availability of another volunteer to take care of the front desk even though my volunteering is to take care of avenues. At least that is the direction I have from the volunteer coordinator. 1 patient was expected to arrive but didn't show up until 8 p.m. Veteran's wife came by to check whether her husband left any personal belonging in his room. I accompanies her to his room as it was not assigned to any other patient at that time. She was very nice and apparently was expecting her husband's death due to his prolonged illness. There was so much to learn from her demeanor on a day she last her companion.

Almost all the nurses and the Hospice staff welcomed me back and it is always a good feeling when I get such warmth from fellow beings.

Saturday, May 4th and Saturday May 11th

These two weeks were probably the best weeks from the point of view of lesser patients and lesser deaths. Interestingly, most who were admitted in the previous weeks were discharged to go home and they can stay at home unless they develop further complications. In order to take care of such patients who were not supported by any family members, transition team coordinator keeps sending emails to provide support to such patients at home. So far, I have not taken such engagements as yet as it involves careful consideration. I am a little nervous about meeting patients when they are alone at home rather than in the Hospice setting were other people are physically present.

Even though the guidance about how to handle patients at home are clear, there is no way to predict what could happen during my presence in their residences. I need to meet a few volunteers who have done this work for a long period of time including transporting them before I commit any such engagement.

However, I have decided also to support "Produce on Wheels" which is part of "Meals on Wheels" program distributing "fresh fruits and vegetables" to the residences of elderly people in the neighborhood. The coordinator provides the route and the residential addresses and all one needs to do is to arrange delivery of those produces. The assignment is restricted to 2 hours at a time and one can pick up as many in a week. I am at present planning to do 1 day to meet some elderly people in the neighborhood. I need orientation for this and I am attending orientation in June.

I am also talking to another Child care home run by Catholic organization. It has a school, a Church, a hostel and a cafeteria in a sprawling facility located in our town. I am presenting a creative idea to them to make the birthday of children in that home very special by a few volunteering to celebrate their birthdays with specific gifts of their choices. Balloons and all other products needed for the birthday will be brought from outside by the volunteering team. The friends of those children in the hostel can also attend this special event. In the absence of the parents, these children miss the opportunity to celebrate their birthdays. Once they complete background screening for the volunteers, we could commence this project. We need to determine the right time to celebrate and either it could be late in the evening on the date of birth or the weekend before or after their birthdays.

Nice to read this update . I was just thinking about it yesterday if I missed last weeks update. Besides what you are already doing , the other two initiatives are equally heart warming . My best wishes for a great success ahead on the new path you have taken.

    Hi @Caughtinbetween,

Thank you for your response. I also completed another service project today of preparing four lesson plans for Group IV children who leave their parents to live in a totally new environment. Those lesson plans are titled, "Circle of influence and its effect on life". I have created a precursor to educate what is circle of influence, some teachings by a Guru about who is a true friend, elaborate details about how to enhance the circle of influence in life and how to dissect the life into categories to view it carefully and lastly, a few videos on paradigm shift that happens in mind and how to inquire what is our true purpose, a sort of who am I inquiry.

Today was a busy day at the care center and I returned only now. I will post the update later. Thank you for reading my posts here in the Transition thread.
