Your uncle has a tea estate ? :dizzy:
Yes; I've heard of many "non-coffee ingredients" in the decoction making. Roasted chicory is the top pick for many.
Roasted fenugreek gives a distinct taste that people who eat dosa, idly sort of breakfast like it. Not as common as chicory.
Indonesians add cloves (crushed and added as a whole piece)
Adding a grain of kosher salt to coffee grinds is an old custom that came from bedouins, arabs, and people in the origin of coffee area - eritrians and ethiopians. This has to do with adding lost ions (just like runners do) due to the hot weather they live in.
Adding milk/cream to coffee is very european.
    Sugar addition is also european.

I thought you are buying coffee/chicory mix from indian grocery stores in USA; aren't you ?

Coffee grounds should smell the way you like it, even before you spoon it into a coffee filter. When the smell is right, then the decoction will come out smelling the way you want.

Sounds good no? Not real uncle. Just another uncle.

Intrigued to try. Wonder how much to add.

Really? I have to try the cloves.

Yep. I got it from the Indian store. Coffee/chicory mix.

Ok. Then I definitely need the fenugreek powder. It doesn’t smell strong enough at all.

Crushed cloves, Roasted (& broken) fenugreek are well known as medicinal hot water steeped tea’s.

If the ground coffee doesn’t smell the way a coffee ought to, these additives won’t improve that for you.

However, why don't you try some fenugreek tea on its own, and see how you like the taste. Google for making fenugreek tea recipe. It is as simple as roast, grind, steep in hotwater to your taste.

You are officially the expert in traditional filter coffee. Have you tasted Mushroom coffee as yet? The way coffee and tea are developing, it looks like we can micro dose (with Psilocybin mushroom) for an extraordinary experience soon.

The Hospice is not exploring these possibilities as yet (at least to my knowledge) and these are comments made out of my own research to explore whole new possibilities to feel alive at the age of 65. I am really happy the psychedelic experiences which were banned for years are now producing some great results. If I can dance, sing, become insightful, excel in anything else I attempt at this age, not with a mere intend to feel high through micro dosing, I don't see any reason not to attempt it, if it is legal. After all, my goal is to be happy always like @Novalis. If it it doesn't come naturally like it comes to @Novalis, I can find other means.

    :hello:I am with you & @Novalis .
    2. Live every moment & this moment happily with pleasant thoughts. Bemoaning does not help - a waste of intellectual energy .
3 Apropos coffee making rigmarole, I remembered my mom’s utterances.
    4. She would mix and keep that beverage ready in SD tumbler
-dawvra on table and I from a distance hear her instructing “ coffee ready. Drink it after adding sugar and stirring.
I found there is a mehod in mixing.
Step 1. Three ladles of warm milk taken from large container after stirring slowly
Step2. Decoction should be transferred in small quantity from tumbler to tumbler till frothy.
Step3. Add frothy decoction into warm milk in tumbler slowly.
Step4. Transfer so mixed from tumbler to tumbler once or twice and then add sugar just to reduce bitterness and at the same time it doesn’t turn sweet.
Step5. Mix and transfer contents between tumbler & Dawara only once slowly.
Step 6. Sip little by little and have mouthful and swallow.
Hurry through or skipping one or more or interchange of the steps listed above will mar deliciousness of the beverage.
    5. One must remember c12 h22 o11 always added to coffee last. If one prefers without sugar it is ok to drink without it. In Saravana Bhavan Chennai without sugar coffee costs bit more.
6 . Milk is a good calm collected lady.
    Coffee is a hyper boy.
    Sugar is mediator or moderator.
Boy with sugar goes to girl.
The virtues exchanged mingled and they become one.

More money for coffee without sugar ?
This is odd. And must be a recent phenom'. A few years ago, I had coffee at the Mylapore (Dr.Radhakrishnan Road branch) S.bhavan, and there was no difference. In the standup-&-drink area, one has to pay for the coffee first, and then take the receipt to the coffee making man, tell him the instructions (my child had a hard time conveying the 2shots-less-milk-no-sugar details to the man...:anguished:), and then get the coffee. Many early morning walkers on that road seem to stop there for that stand-up coffee.
