    Episode 1:

“Push..breath out..push well…that’s it..just few more seconds..you are going to cuddle your little bundle of joy..good girl..cooperate..come on..push” Dr. Kalyani was attending a delivery. Within a minute the baby came out giving out its first cry. The nurses and junior doctors around clapped their hands. “Congrats. It is a girl” she announced. The lady who delivered smiled with happy tears in her eyes. She gave the post delivery instructions to her assistants and came out of the operation theatre.

She cleaned herself and sat on her chair checking for other appointments. Her mobile rang. As soon she saw the name in her mobile her lips wore a big smile “Hello Guna. I was about to call you”

Guna: Kani! How was the delivery. All ok?

Kalyani: Yes Guna. A beautiful girl baby with head full of hair and super pinkish

Guna: Good Good. Did you have your lunch?

Kalyani: Nope. I will come there and lets have together.

Guna: Great. That’s what even I want. Come! I will wait.

Kalyani: In next 15 minutes I will be there. You take your before food tablets.

    Guna: Done my sweet heart.

She hung the phone. She called her junior doctor and ensured things are going fine. Assuring she will be back in a couple of hours after her lunch she was about to start. Mr. Paulraj Manager of Pharmacy department came to meet her along with his son.Kalyani beamed at both and asked them to sit.

Paulraj introduced his son and told “Dr. This is my son. He has completed his diploma in interior designing. Looking for a job now. It would be really a great help if you recommend him in your son’s company”. Kalyani looked embarrassed. She and her husband have a very strict policy that they will never recommend anyone for anything. Everyone in their circle be it hospital or the friends family all knows that.

She gave a formal smile and said “Paulraj. Don’t you know about me? I never interfere in others job. According to me rather than other people, our talent should speak for us. Don’t mistake me, please.”

Paulraj said in a pleading tone “Dr Madam, why can’t you do this for me. You know very well about my family situation. As of now only I am earning. His salary would be of big help for us”

She tried to deny politely but Paulraj was not in a mood to leave. As it was getting late for Guna to have lunch,Kalyani got up from her seat and spoke while walking towards the door “Sir is waiting to have lunch Paulraj. Your son has a great talent. Achievement is something which we get without any support. Your son is born to achieve. Don’t stop his confidence by making him stand in front of a people for references. His brilliance is his reference. His knowledge should speak for him. God bless you kanna. All the best.” Saying she left

Dr.Kalyani Gunasekar. A famous gynecologist who is well known for her kindness and expertise in women health. Even a complex case would end up in normal delivery if she attends. She has never shown her hard face to anyone even the patients, workers, staff nurse or the junior doctors. Having 30 years of experience in women health and child birth she has her own hospital Kalyani Maternity clinic. Anger is something which could never enter Kalyani’s book of life

Mr. Gunasekar. Retired Commander General, Indian Army. Better half of Kalyani and a good friend in all aspects. Even after 30 years of their successful marriage life, still they love each other as a newly married couple. Due to health issues Guna was forced by Kalyani to take retirement.

Kalyani completed MBBS, MD and DGO after marriage. When Guna served in the war fields, Kalyani started practicing gynecology with much passion. Distance couldn’t be a barrier for their unconditional love. When Prasanna born Guna was fighting in the border of China. Till 1.5 years Prasanna grew without the presence of his father. Kalyani raised him with all good qualities, manners and discipline. Prasanna has completed B.Arch and started his own interior decor company. For his innovative and new ideas, he is successful and popular in his career. His company deals with doing interiors for star hotels, corporates, etc. He is always an apple of their eyes.

Kalyani and Guna had their lunch and had a casual chat. Prasanna entered with a trace of anger in his eyes. The couple looked at each other in conundrum.

“Hey! Mr.Angry bird” smiled Guna at his son

Prasanna gave a hard look at him. Guna gestured Kalyani “Whats up?” She shrugged her shoulders and transferred her look at Prasanna. He placed a file on the coffee table. Guna picked the file and shocked to see it. He gave an embarrassed look at his son and “save me” look at Kalyani. She understood the reason behind his anger. Smiling she got up and held Prasanna’s hand “I knew already that this would be the results Prasanna. I will take care. You stay chill.”

“Mom! See how careless he is. Everything is abnormal. Creatinine is increased. Diabetes is high. Poor control. Is this the way you take care of him. In the name of humour club, he is having variety of junks. No…hereafter he is not going anywhere. I have built you a library with nearly 100s of books dad. Go for a walk in our terrace and read books. Lot of music CDs are in our system. You please spend time here. I mean it, you are not going anywhere” Prasanna yelled

“Kani, Who is Dr here? You or our Son?” Guna asked in a naughty tone.

“Aahaaa! Dr or Engineer or architect. Everyone knows the value of health Dad. Please!” in a pleading tone “Why don’t you take care of your health? May be that’s not important to you but for me you and mom are my heart and brain.”

“Who is your stomach and lungs then?” Guna asked mischievously

“Can’t you remain silent for some time? Already he is tensed. Come here Prasanna. I will serve lunch for you. If you have informed already that you will be coming we would have waited for you” Kalyani tried to console him

“Mom! I met Partha uncle. He told High BP and high sugar might lead to stroke. Why don’t he understand?” Prasanna looked worried. “That tea shop Ravi Anna is serving bonda, samosa and all sort of junks every day. Do you know?”

Partha is their family friend and heart surgeon in a renowned multi-specialty hospital. His timely and efficient treatment saved Guna from a major heart attack 2 years back. Partha’s sonand Prasanna are close friends from the childhood.

Kalyani looked surprised and gestured Guna “Is that true?” with her eyes. Guna swayed with a childish smile and winked at her. She gave a fake angry look placing her hands on her hip. Guna smiled again pretending as afraid of her. Prasanna hit himself on his head gently and said “Can you guys stop this romance. I am bored of seeing this everyday”

“Jealousy fellow! You have no girlfriend so you are missing all these. Stop doing CID work and start looking for a suitable girl for you. Give me grandchild. I will stop these clubs, library, hunting junk food stalls and let me run behind your children. If you are going to be Baba Ramdev should I also follow you. Mr. J..J for jealousy. I have a beautiful wife. One and only wife. I will romance with her, chat with her. Why your stomach is burning huh..Kani dear, don’t waste time talking to such soup boys. Come, we were discussing about our second honeymoon right. Lets continue the discussion. Come” Guna pulled her hand, stuck his tongue towards Prasanna and walked away. Kalyani followed her husband with pride in her eyes. Prasanna felt happy about his parents. He smirked at them but still his heart was keep on alarming him about his dad’s health

That night, Prasanna sat on the balcony with his laptop. He was carefully going through the quotation of his new project. Kalyani came with a glass of milk and sat in front of Prasanna. Usually that’s the task of their servant maid. He was surprised with her sudden visit and understood she has something to talk with him. He placed the laptop on the coffee table and beamed at his mom.

“Tell me Mom!” asked Prasanna sipping the hot milk

Kalyani left a gentle smile and asked straightly “Prasanna! I have not seen you getting tense for anything so far but today??I was surprised. Why were you so angry?”

He placed the cup down and looked at his mom. His forehead wore lines of qualms. “Mom. There is nothing like you don’t know. After last attack, I am so worried about dad. As I always say you and dad are my only world. Partha Uncle told the results are not looking good. ECG has lot of fluctuations did you see or not. But Mom, how are you supporting him still? Are you fine he is not strict in his diet? Are you ok that his improper food habit has shoot up his diabetes and creatinine value? Being a Dr How can you stay cool?”

Kalyani sighed and held his hands “Prasanna! Your father is everything to me. I will do anything for his desire and his words are like orders to me. I will go to any extent to satisfy his wishes. I know his bad food habits but I won’t stop him. Because I know how to treat the impacts. Last time was unexpected, but I am now more cautious. Partha emailed me the results already. I have changed the dosage and monitoring very frequently. For around 20 years he was in the warfield eating diet food and no source of enjoyment. Only in these 10 years he is enjoying all these, isn’t it. See, like a child he is relishing small small things. You are his apple of eyes. Let him adore this dear. I am with him and I won’t lead him to fall sick. Trust me. Being away from the family for years long, he loves people and their company now. Making him house arrest on account of his health won’t improve anything. Rather let him do whatever he wants. End of the day I will repair all craps. Fine?”

Prasanna pressed her hands in affirmation. Guna who came in search of Kalyani heard all these. Happy tears filled his eyes seeing the unconditional and over flowing love of his wife and son on him.

Guna went and sat on his bed. He laughed at Prasanna’s words about book & humour club. Is he going only for the junk food? Kalyani and Prasanna have absolutely no idea that he is going there to eradicate his loneliness at his home with his new favorite companion.

He doesn’t know this new companion is going to create a huge cyclone to spoil the happiness, their house is filled with.

    Episode 2:

Sun spread his rays vanishing the darkness prevailed on the earth. The moment eyes opened to feel the light may be lazy. But in every typical house, next one hour will be a super-fast jet. The search behind our ambition or money or passion or commitment or dream or whatever drives us every day which sets wheel in our legs making us run run run behind those search. The quench for these thirst drives our life

Guna’s house is not an exception. Kalyani and Prasanna had their quick breakfast together and started to their respective workstation. Guna was left alone at this big house.

They shifted to this new house owned by Prasanna very recently. The main reason is both Prasanna’s office and Kalyani’s nursing home is nearby. That’s a residential condominium which is full of independent houses. It has swimming pool, gymnasium, kids play area, play school, books and humor club which is a library cum community center, a super market, temple and so on.

Prasanna designed each and every aspect of this house. Starting from the kitchen, till the rooms were taken extra care with exclusive interior. He has built a mini library with good collection of books and lot of CDs. The intention is when Guna is not feeling well to go out he can leisurely spend time in that room.

Initially Guna felt very lonely in this house. His library couldn’t help much to kill his time as he wished. He joined this club to read magazines and books suggested by Prasanna. Without any option and just to kill boredom without loneliness he joined this club. Early days passed with no major interest. He got few friends who were retired government servants. Somehow Guna felt the topics they chose for discussion is utter bore. Most of the time he doesn’t participate in their chats. When he was about to quit the club he met her.

She: a medium height wheatish skin tone, featured face in her 22s. Her eyes narrated kind poems. He could also felt a thin line of sorrow and solitary in her eyes. At first he thought his feelings were reflected in her eyes.

She had neither a positive nor negative vibrations in her. Her actions were calm and undisturbing. It didn’t voluntarily attracted anyone nor leave unnoticed. Her work were neat and organized. In the evenings she took classes for three kids for free of cost. During day time she arranged books based on authors, helped the librarian in feeding the membership and books borrowed details in the computer and read some books and magazines. Few days he was just watching her activities.

After a month or so, one day Guna lost his balance while picking a book from the shelf. He fell along with few books on him. She quickly came near him in a hop and helped him get up. “Uncle, are you ok?” her eyes reflected affection and care. Her caring eyes replicated Kalyani’s. Kani’s eyes speak the same warmth and love he thought

“Uncle??” her voice brought him back to reality

“Ahh! Yeah! I am fine. May be just….weakness” he held her hand for support. She supported him to walk and made him sit on the bench placed near entrance. She switched on the fan and brought a glass of water. He felt better. He smiled at her and asked “What is your name dear?”

“I am Meera! Shall I bring some juice for you? Are you ok now?” she replied

“Hey no…no…! I am fine. You name the issues, I have it. BP, sugar, cholesterol and now heart problem” saying he laughed aloud. He continued “but my life is still going strong because of two pure souls who don’t know anything other than love and care…my wife and son”

“hmm…lucky you are” she replied while placing the glass back to its place

“of course. I am lucky. You cant have sweet always. At time you need a different taste too. Life is same way. If you get everything good then it won’t be interesting. So God has given me best relations and worst health. But I never feel for this” he laughed again

Meera “You talk so nicely Uncle. I haven’t seen you here. Are you new to this place?”

Guna “Yes! We shifted to this place last month. I am visiting this club for almost 3 weeks. I have seen you many times. Your eyes just looked like my Kani’s”

Her eyes widened and smirked “Really?”

“Friends??” he extended his hands towards her

“Ha ha! Sure Uncle” she smiled and grabbed his hand gently. They laughed together. Meera found Guna to be an interesting humorous person.

“Tell me about you?” Guna asked

“In one word to say, I am not as lucky as you Uncle. You are blessed with a beautiful family. I am cursed with” she smiled sarcastically

    Guna shrunk his eyebrows “Means??”

When Meera about to reply someone yelled outside “MMMEEEEEEEERRRAAAA”

She dropped the books she was holding in her hand and quickly ran out. Guna slowly got up and came out holding the door. A lady frowned at her and went away. Meera with head down followed her

Guna stood puzzled. The librarian came out and hit his head “this lady again? Poor girl she is” he went in speaking to self. Guna followed the librarian. He sat before him and asked “Who is she?”

“She is the step mother of Meera. Meera is a very nice person. I know that girl from her childhood. From the day her dad married that lady her bad time started. A typical step mom story.”

I am cursed with family” Meera’s voice echoed in his ears

For next one week, Meera didn’t come to the club. Guna’s eyes were tired expecting her presence. He became dull. He wanted to know more about that girl. He couldn’t get anything from the librarian. All he knows was Meera is good and step mom is bad.

Guna thought of not going to club only. He didn’t talk much at home. He stayed in his room only. When Kalyani and Prasanna enquired he could not answer them. Sometimes he wondered within himself why he longs for that girl. Kalyani cancelled all her appointments and remained with Guna only. Her presence made Guna come out of the anxiety but still his heart wished to know about Meera’s well being. More than the eagerness to know about her, her absence concerned him. He doesn’t feel like sharing about this to Kalyani. Because he himself doesn’t know anything about her. He felt good about her, that’s it. “What if she starts vising the club?” his heart questioned him one day. He decided to go back there. Besides Kalyani being cancelling all her appointments for the sake of him made him feel guilty. “I should not be stopping her daily routines” he said to himself. The traces of burden vanished gradually from his face.

He asked her to continue her chores. He promised that he is feeling better and like to visit the club. His clear face and beaming eyes assured Kalyani that he is back to normal. With the sense of satisfaction she started to hospital. Guna walked towards the club praying for Meera. He greeted his friends and the librarian. After formal enquiries he walked towards the bookshelf. To his anticipation, he found Meera arranging the books.

“Meera” he shouted in joy. Like a child he literally ran towards her like a child hopping towards its mom. Seeing him running and cheerfulness in his face she reciprocated the same and walked towards him. He clutched her hand and said “Where were you. I became mad without seeing you last week, you know?”

Meera looked at him puzzled but she felt happy that there is someone in this world who need her presence. “a 50 years old child” she thought. She made him sit in the chair and sat next to him. “What happened Uncle. You look worried as well as happy at the same time” she gently pressed his hand.

“Hahhha…Yeah Meera. I was worried that I didn’t see you and happy that you are in front of me now with the same charming in your eyes. Why you didn’t come. Did she scold you badly?”

“Who told you about her?” Meera questioned

“Except for the fact that she is your step mom I don’t know anything about her”

Meera sighed “that’s usual thing Uncle. I am much used to it”

“Do you mind sharing about you to me” Guna requested “consider me as your father”

Meera nodded her head in incongruity “NO NO UNCLE PLEASE” her eyes shed tears “If there is any relation that I hate on this earth is dad. Mom and Dad are the most important primary relation in this world. They are the root. All other relations are just branches from that. But my root itself is wrong, weak, unstable” she started sobbing.

Guna rubbed her hair gently. He understood one thing from the way she spoke. She has pushed everything within her and smiling outside. That’s way more dangerous because one day if it bursts out the impact will be huge and unrepairable

“It’s time to open up my dear. Come with me”

“No Uncle. Let this be within me. I don’t want to transfer my sorrows to others. Atleast let others be happy. That’s what I want” saying she got up from the chair. Guna increased his grip on her hand stopping to move

“Listen to me Meera. I am your friend Am I not?”

“Absolutely Yes Uncle, but…try to understand. Let me go. We will meet tomorrow”

“I am trying to understand you Meera. Something says I have some connection with you. From the day I saw you, some bonding…you know…I couldn’t explain…there is something between us. Why should I feel hurt if someone scolds you? Why I feel like I lost myself when I didn’t see you? There is something Meera. Don’t you understand? I might be one such branches in your relation tree. Who knows? But…but I am so damn sure that there is a bond between us. Trust me Meera. I came here only for the hope that I can meet you today. And see., I met you. You need not think me as your father. As a friend you can open up your heart and burst out. I am there for you Meera” he spoke emotionally. As a result he started breathing fast. He sweat a lot. He coughed as he couldn’t breathe properly. Meera stood up and rubbed his chest and back. She quickly got him a glass of water.

“Uncle. Seems you are not feeling well. Why are you unnecessarily troubling you for my sake? Please Uncle. I don’t want sympathy. “

“No Meera” Guna interrupted “you are misidentifying care and sympathy. Both are different, I know. Now, I am not feeling well and you are helping me. You want me to take that as care or sympathy that you have on me? Tell me?”

Meera stood dumbstruck. She put her head down and moved her head left and right. She closed her eyes and opened after few seconds. She held his hand and made him sit on the chair. Guna continued “Don’t you understand what I am feeling right now Meera? There is something between us, my instinct is saying. I may be related to you. How can I find that without knowing about you, Tell me? Whenever I see you I have a strong feeling that I know you for years. Ok, forget about my instincts. As a friend can’t you share what you are going through, which you have never done in your lifetime to anyone? Trust me, it will give you some peace of mind, you know. You will feel light”

Tears rolled on her cheeks. Poor fellow. This is the second time she is experiencing such love and care. First time it was from her maternal uncle’s family.

The librarian came and informed that he is going for lunch. He asked whether she will be able to look after till he comes. She nodded in affirmation. He left. Other people have left already. Except Guna and Meera there was no one in the library.

Meera started to narrate her life tragedy
