    Good topic. . Seeing them I thought too if I should buy a choker . Well my mom brought one from GRT. silver one with stones .Super pretty. I borrowed and wore it once for a wedding reception. Felt odd as I was conscious that people are 1) staring at me and my choker 2) I started thinking what they are thinking seeing my choker.

    I decided I can never carry a choker. Because it's too much attention for me to handle :D

    I don't care for their hairstyle. I'm also not a fan of these high neck blouses.

    A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion. Wearing as much as they can carry without toppling over is fine as far as I'm concerned.

    I have a question: Is all that good stuff on loan from the jeweler?

    My problem is with the brides themselves ... heads should be covered, eyes should be cast down, bindis should be bigger ... :p

    May not be on loan but gifts from the jeweler's themselves for promotion. Just like the saris Deepu wore for her wedding were sold out within two days, there must be enough demand for the jewelry too to consider gifting them. Maybe going with a hairstyle that ensures a clear view of the jewelry for their prospective customers was part of the deal, we would never know for sure. Even if that were the case I don't see anything wrong with it. Why not right?

    Another thought I had even before this thread was that they just wanted to flaunt that newly acquired sindhoor :)

    Better-half thinks they are all gifts from near and dear because whatever amount is gifted on a Wedding is tax free so a lot of wealthy people do gift big-time on a wedding for that added benefit. Hey, Happy Wedding and here's a gift with 30% extra for free :p

    @Lalithambigai,

    Interesting observation about the hairstyle being stipulated by the jeweler. It sounds about right. I agree, nothing wrong. It's a modeling fee.

    Tax-free point is also new to me.

    Learn something new every day!

    :hello:Just for curiosity came here and learnt what is choker. Unmistakeable conclusions. Hats of to FB Posters her.
    2. After all these brilliant FBs, I wish to know what OP concluded decided for herself in terms of her questions.
    3. Did OP go for it.
    4. Deepika Anushka Kangana all wore it as a showcase in public display only as models to woe the rich customers to GRT Malabar.
    5. This reminds me that choker or necklace worn even by menfolk including Male bharatha Natiyam dancers. In the vogue magazine of 2016 published internationally acclaimed dancing & singing men wearing chokers.

    6. Just a bit history. In the yore of days, it began as sequel to men and women guillotined in France. During the French Revolution, young ladies would wear a red ribbon around their necks to symbolise those whose heads knocked out in the guillotine machine. Ruffled collars and other neck adornments were commonly worn for three centuries before the Revolution, and the choker emerged as a combination of these trends.

    Thanks and Regards.
