Scotch is a great idea since it won't be pushed back in the closet.

We stopped giving "gifts" a few years ago. Most adults just buy what they need when they need it. But we do gift something in terms of experience gifts. Less clutter, more fun. I have bought cashmere sweaters and stuff for him in the past, I don't think I have ever seen him wearing those.

For Christmas- I bought Ski gear for DH and my son (daughter is too little for skiing, she has to wait). My friend and I also booked hot air balloon ride for him and her DH so the guys can enjoy half a day out without kids. DH gifted me the balloon ride on lake Tahoe for my birthday last year and it was an experience of lifetime, it's the only hot balloon in the world that takes off and lands on a boat. So, he gets to do it now.

I don't have very many ideas, we usually travel after Christmas and that is our gift to each-other (family gift). This year we are going to Merida and Campeche, Mexico for a week.

For girl friends- I bought pedicure session for all three of us. It's a sip and spa (wine and pedicure).

Terre D'Hermes is really nice. I got it last time.

How about shoes? Seems like these are trending. Something that will be of use.

Btw, the Aftershokz bone-conducting headphones are pretty neat. I personally feel its better than Airpods and Beats. It sits outside the ear and I hate things that sit in or cover my ear.

If you are buying a watch, personalize it. Things Remembered in any mall will engrave the watch with your initials or whatever else you want on there. I've done this in the past. Even perfume bottles can be engraved. Wallets can be personalized(Coach I know does it in their store. Neiman Marcus does engraving on all their watches/belts etc in the location I go to).

    Happy Shopping!

Book Suggestion: "The Scotch" by John Kenneth Galbraith, Ambassador to India during John Kennedy's presidency, and Professor of Economics, Harvard U.

The Scotch by John Kenneth Galbraith
This is an easy read. Wry humor about his recollections of the people he was born into and grew up with in Southern Ontario.

Unusual books are rarely ever in stock at a bookstore. One has to order that, or have a weekly habit of loitering in old book stores.

Here is an incident (I paraphrase) JKG describes from his young years in rural Ontario. The young ones, when they "walk out" on a date, had pretty much nowhere to go, but just sit on the field fence, and watch the sunset. In one such date, the young duo were watching the cows on his family's pasture. And they see the lone bull serving his purpose. The youngman turns his face and asks:"wouldn't it be fun to do that?". The girl, without turning her face, answered:"Go ahead; it is your (family's) cow".

I have to find this book.
If you haven’t read “A suitable boy’, I would highly recommend that too. I heard that “A suitable girl” is also published now but I am not sure.

Curious... why the mention of "The Scotch" link to "A Suitable Boy"? Galbraith's book is a tiny, teeny thing, that can be read in a day's time, whereas the Vikram Seth book is heavy enough to be a doorstop.
Yes; I have read that. Large patches of "quaint" things in it. As a culture we had move on a lot.
"The Golden Gate" (a small size book) by Vikram Seth would be a great thing to read. It is a novel in verse, in sonnets, no less. A great technical feat in modern literature, and yet so accessible to everyone with a modest vocabulary.

    That girl indeed is witty!
I will order this book; Valentines day is coming up sooner than we think anyway. Thank you for the suggestion.
