    Man Kills Self Before Shooting Wife and Daughter (This one I caught in the SGV Tribune the other day and called the Editorial Room and asked who wrote this.)

    It took two or three readings before the editor realized that what he was reading was impossible!!! They put in a correction the next day.

    I must admit, your taste in sourcing online shares is as fine as your self-written snippets. You must also admit that I am the only goblin who could write a winding essay as response even to an online forward. Newspaper headline bloopers engender ironic laughs! I particularly liked "run down jaywalkers" and "red tape holding up bridges".

    Proofreading is a weighty precursor and not something to be taken lightly, esp., in situations where your own judgement is addled by a sloppy handout more soever after what happened to Dan Quayle because a miscreant didn't proofread the spelling bee card for him.

    On June 15, 1992, Quayle altered 12-year-old student William Figueroa's correct spelling of "potato" to "potatoe" at the Muñoz Rivera Elementary School spelling bee in Trenton, New Jersey. Quayle was the subject of widespread ridicule for his error. According to The New York Times and Quayle's memoirs, he was relying on cards provided by the school, which Quayle says included the misspelling. Quayle said he was uncomfortable with the version he gave, but did so because he decided to trust the school's incorrect written materials instead of his own judgment.

    Thus, jaywalkers could be run down and bridges held by red tape when a pot jeopardizes a presidential toe.

    @Ouroboros
    After reading this, I had to rush and look for my sweaters! Thank you, thank you!
    If anyone has a contrary opinion about this, I would like to meet her!
    There are goof ups and goof ups but making them laugh worthy needs innovative spirit. These goof ups are such that make you sad to correct them. (Is there any other word for a goof up?)
    Potato is a tricky word. One doesn't have to be Vice-President to get confused by it. I too lose my way in spelling it. They should have made it just 'pototo' without a different vowel in between! My grandson used to call it topato in the early stages of his life!
