    Hi Ladies,
As the title suggests I really require some help from the mothers like me, I find it impossible to handle my only son who is 15 years and he is in his 9th Std. Though extremely brilliant he is not putting much effort during is exams finally his report card shows 75-78%. He is a tech freek and always meddling with our mobiles are he is in front of his comp browsing, my constant nagging, yelling and scolding him does not have even a slightest effect on him. The moment I enter his room he closes his mail or the chat room, I wonder how all his class mates including girls will be online even at 10-11 in the night he keeps chatting even exchanging his notes all thru net. Once he is bored then he switches on the TV and you will wonder he watches all the pro grammes right from Cartoon net work to F TV.
This is really worrying me, because next year is the board exams and at this rate I dont understand if he will able to score well for a seat in good college, as the cut off percentage over here in Bangalore is above 80-85% . And yes his ambition is to become a soft ware engineer and travel through t the world. But your dreams should be followed with hard work right. Please do help me to tackle his problem

    Dear Hema,
Been there, experienced just that !
Reading your post was like a flashback .
My son, at 15, was ditto yours !
Though I used to tear my hair in anxiety, he was confident and composed. He did well in his exams . Today he is an IT professional, well established in a designation he loves.
In retrospect, I think ,as mothers, we start imagining a lot of terrors and what-ifs in our anxiety and unconsciously pass it on to the child during exams. I later found that the more relaxed we are, the better they do. I used to worry myself sick that the boy could be watching undesirable sites on Internet and getting corrupted ! But my mother told me not to keep cross-questioning him or advising him. Upon her advise, I started talking to him like a friend about the internet , videogames, chatrooms etc.etc.After that, he was very happy to share most of his PC time with me, to show me new tricks he'd learnt, new sites he had discovered. And during casual friendly chats at the dining table, I'd mention useful tech. articles in newspapers, about people who have done worthwhile things in the field, the cushy jobs available these days, and all that.
I wont say my son took the gold medal at university, but he did well enough to get a job in a very wellknown outfit.
(And at 26, he still likes Jetix, animated movies and the playstation!)
Please dont worry. Kids these days are smarter than we think.
    Just relax .
