    Tips -
Did the man say yes? Like a real yes, go ahead, find contractors. And, is there an upper limit on expenses.

At times, I get a yes, and I go ahead with all research etc. And when he realizes I am serious, I get a "Umm... that will be a lot of dust and unsettled weeks.... maybe we should rethink."

    Sorry to be a damper. : )

I am posting photographs of our kitchen which was done 2 years back. Please ignore the clutter in our kitchen. If you like this kitchen, I will provide you details about how to plan, which to order first, and how to efficiently execute project with minimum interruption to the kitchen. If your kitchen is close to living room, you need to clean for dust everyday. They have to put contractor sheets to walk around. They need to screen the area they need to work before commencing it. With proper planning, you can get it done in less than 6 weeks. Some essential items, coffee, milk, etc. need to be moved to another location for early morning coffee, etc. Do you have another sink near your laundry room and you need to make sure it is functional before commencing the work.

    Here are the photographs.

The entire kitchen was conceptualized by my wife but designed by a consultant (she works full time for Lowes). She did the design over 7-8 hours for free and ordered the items from the OEMs and it took nearly 6-8 weeks for delivery. The two critical items that need to be ordered much before commencement of the work are a) Kitchen closets, b) granite stones. Granite stones order takes 2-3 weeks for cutting it to the measured size, bringing it and installing it after the kitchen cabinets are done. All other kitchen appliances can be picked up and will be delivered within a week.

Remember the modular kitchens are designed to American standards and some of the cabinets are not reachable for our normal height. You may need a step stool to reach some of the racks at the top.

Thanks for the pics.very nice kitchen and the cabinet colors look different and trendy.fridge is the same as yours.few queries..1) is it best to put microwave above oven or use the chimney?

    2) I see you have tiles. Is it preferred more than hardwood?

    3) granite countertop better than quadz?

    4) are double sinks outdated?

That color was selected by my wife. It was a very unique color after the OEM manufactured with that color, I heard they sold many with that color in the last 2 years.

We have intentionally moved Microwave to a different location as we don't use it that much to cook. Earlier, our kitchen had a stove and microwave above it with only 18 inches space between the stove and microwave. The heat generated from the stove created so much stickiness in the bottom of the microwave as we cook everyday. Now we have stove with chimney in one location, oven and microwave in another location giving enough room for everything.

The tiles were made in 1998 right after the home was bought covering the living and family room. We felt it is easier to clean and maintain. We were little nervous about termites.

If you like, I can post complete planning and execution I did two years back.

Question 2 - I see you have tiles. Is it preferred more than hardwood?

    Answered above.

Question 3 - granite countertop better than quadz?

Quadz are more expensive, have very limited options but easy to maintain. You may get so many colors and options in case of granite and you could become very creative. Moreover, the new trend is to have two separate colors for the island and for the main kitchen granite.

Question 4 - Are double sinks outdated?

No, not necessarily. If the space available is the same, one or two sinks don't make much difference. My wife felt, space available to wash is considerably reduced, if we have two sinks. Larger vessels are difficult to clean. She focused more on the depth and one large sink instead of two.
