    @Srama
    My dear Sabi
    Absolutely true! During my banking days when I was struggling with physical adding, my colleagues started calling me 'thick-headed' and that title stayed put. Even now when I go to the Bank to sign my pension papers, my old colleges continue to address me so. This title simply fell on my lap! During the days of manual balancing of books, whenever my colleagues were troubled by reconciliation problem, they would call for all the books handled by me first!

    My dear Viji
    The grandparents of every generation keep changing rapidly. You and I use computers to mail our grandchildren. About two generations back, such a thing was not even in their wildest imagination unless they turned out to be a Nostradamus. My grandma used to talk about a bag of rice being available for Rs.5. Nowadays even a potato bonda costs about Rs.20! The rising costs appear to be the reason for the modern scramble for better jobs with higher pay. As a result everyone keeps changing his job once in every five years! The bullock race of our time has now become a rat race!

    Dear Poovai
    That's a beautiful name no matter if it is your original or a pseudonym.
    My mother lived as a widow for 35 years and she would be 105 if she was alive now. She was a unique combination of softness and firmness. Something like sweet and sour vegetables you know! For some 45 years since her birth, she brought us all up with such devotion that we would never disobey her directions. My grandchildren had greater love and affection for their great grandmother than us! My grandma belonged to the 19th century and had fascinating stories to tell us about her young days. How memories of a long last past fascinate us!

    Dear Cheeniya Sir,

    It was with great relish I read about your golden memories of your maternal grandmother.I was enchanted both by the simplicity as well as the honesty of your writing.
    At least you had the fortune of listening to ghost stories from your grandma, which I am sure would have been far more better than the present day ghost serials aired on TV and the ghost movies through which one time actors turn into celebrities.
    Relationships within the family has also changed a lot, what with the members fighting among themselves for the remote to watch their own favorite serials.
    Smart phones have changed the entire scenario, where everyone is seen glued to their phones, talking nonstop nonsense.
    I literally grew under the shadow of both my paternal as well as maternal grandparents, due to the untimely demise of my father. So I was a constant witness to the clash of personal egos between warring factions. Somewhere between these quarrels, I got glimpses of affection from them, which is what that has made me in to a strong woman!

    Grandparents are the most lovable human beings.
    Every reader could relate to their grandparents in someway while going through this post and there is some kind of satisfaction about having it read .
    There was a rush of emotions in me after reading the post back to back for few times

    grandmas are always so adorable..especially maternal grandmas who pamper their grandkids by making delicious dishes of their choice, and special stuff for birthdays and festivals, tell stories, and protect them from anger of parents to a large extent!

    @Agatha83
    Dear Agatha
    Listening to the ghost stories of my grandma and numerous aunts (there were 11 of them!) was a great experience unlike what we see on the TV. One particular writer-Director of Tamil movies and serials is an expert in ghost stories. I remember one particular story that my grandma would narrate. It was about getting hold of a gem that would make a King invincible and greatest of all kings. There was a catch though. As the King proceeded towards the goal, he should never turn back. If he did he would become a stone statue! Whenever a king was daring enough to attempt the adventure, he would hear some female telling him to see her and find how beautiful she was. If the King turned back, he would become statue! There were thus numerous statues everywhere. The moral of the story is that if you are on an important mission, you should never let your attention get diverted to a different subject.
    It was great fun I tell you. My grandma would actually imitate the call of the female ghost inviting the king to look back in a musical form.
    The children of today, see the same thing on TV with their eyes jutting out!

    Dear goldenhoney
    My mother would often tell us that our grandparents were the link to Divinity. As the children were usually delivered in the place of maternal grandparents during my childhood and the children spent the first few months there, they developed a special affinity for them. Those were really fun days! The grandmother would give the newborn oil baths in piping hot water. They would hold the child in their folded legs and it used to be a wonderful sight to watch.

    Dear Cheeniya sir,

    Sorry to keep interjecting but this statement of yours reminded me of all the ghost stories you have shared here in

    your ramblings and here are a couple of links -

    Ghosts At Night

    A peep into the world of ghosts!

    I have to tell you though and I think I have already told you many a time though (!!) that this is my favorite

    An encounter with a young woman!

    I have no doubt your grand mother's story telling has had an effect on you! Just read that story again, if you are in doubt.

    PS: After a long time I went through your rambling index and that sense of awe with your writing continues :biggrin:. Please continue to bring more for us.
