Query: Please Guide.

    My younger son recently joined the play school. I never gave him time for any kind of writing before that as I was always busy with the elder ones homework. Now when the YO started his writing he try to write with both hands one at time. His school teacher told me that he write more with left hand. But at home I noticed he keep changing his hand.

    I am little concerned about him like how I should make him practice. This is his initial stage so he may be confused of which hand to use or he may learn to write with both hands or with the left hand only. How should I proceed with it. Should I just observe it first or what else can I do for this?

    Hi,
    My daughter also used to keep changing her hand when she started school 2 years ago. I too was confused. But with time she learnt which is her dominant hand and she writes with her Right hand now. I would suggest you not to worry and wait and watch your son and take his own time in figuring out. Never discourage him from using Left hand. With time he himself will learn to use either of his hands; and who knows he could be ambidextrous. I hope this was useful to you :)

    Yes it is useful. Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering do I need to take care of something or it will grow naturally. I don't discourage him for using any hand and open to accept anything that he can become comfortable to. Thank you for sharing your experience.

    Dear M,

    That's the way to go. Let him discover his dominant hand and use it. In fact, if he is able to continue using both the hands (Ambidextrous) there is a great advantage; both the hemispheres of his brain get equal stimulation and will have a greater chance to develop well!:) Some school near Delhi is training their students to be ambidextrous, check it out for some additional info.

    Thanks...I saw that kind of school on TV. He could be ambidextrous or not but I was just thinking what role do I have to help him finding his way. But I just have to wait and watch. :)

    Yes, dear. Which hand does he use to eat or play? Observe which is his dominant hand and keep quiet, sit back and enjoy. At least for another six months do so and inform his teacher also not to insist on any particular hand. Usually, by then, your kiddo must settle down.
