I'd like to eventually get PhD in User-Interface (I love colors and design). How was it like getting PhD? I hear you have to defend your PhD, what does that mean? Are professors going to ask all sorts of hard questions. I feel a bit intimidated by getting PhD because what if after all my hard work I make a silly mistake during my defense? Please help!
Hi I'm doing my PhD... getting a PhD isn't easy but surely you can do it if you have the will..depends the problem you choose, working environment etc etc..lot of factors..this is my 5 th year, have faced lot of difficulties..but I'm expecting to wind up by the end of this year..( two kids too..not very easy to strike a balance)..your results should be published in peer reviewed journals and yes there is an open defense and viva voce where you present your thesis as powerpoint slides and your external examiner asks questions, of course the audience too...dont worry about making mistakes or not answering some of the questions, it's natural
Phd would be a pinnacle of achievement. Research scholars always have a tenacity and diligence. Doctorate is a highly challenging process,it involves a lot of rigor and discipline over a period of time. I have no idea about your intended stream for a PhD. You must spend ample time to research before finalizing your objective. Your proposal must be strong enough with significant questions and approach, along with a defend-able justification on why you have chosen this topic, plan, and sometime time schedule are also included. Hope this helps. All the best.
Once you enroll for a PhD program in a reputed university under a supervisor (Professor), you will understand the details. You will get experience on how to defend a Thesis, make presentations and publish papers in international reputed journals. Its lot of work, needs dedication to succeed. One may have to complete course work too(depends on university/country etc). Generally ~ 3-5 yrs is needed depending on the topic and the program to complete PhD. You can visit any university website to get more details on the requirements and criteria to enroll to the program. You will get a rough idea here - How to Get a PhD
