Spiritual Awakening Intuition is like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon through a painful transformation and once such inner transformation occurs, that leads to a higher level of consciousness and derives inner peace. Two wings are like pleasure and pain and once the mind remain unaffected and remain neutral to either one of them, transformation begins to the higher level of consciousness.

What are the effects of higher level of consciousness and why should someone even attempt to reach a higher level of consciousness? It provides a stress-free existence, heals body, mind and spirit, provides meaningful life, achieves inner peace, remains always blissful, develops unconditional love, feels oneness of all and transforms from functioning from the mind influenced by the senses to intellect influenced by the consciousness.

Stress-free existence: We are the embodiment of divine principle which is eternal. All experiences encountered are passing clouds. The divine principle continues its journey unaffected by the worldly happenings. Brooding over the past or worrying about the future is a waste of time. Only real existence is the being that is aware and always blissful and hence it is not only present always but also omnipresent.

Healing body, mind and intellect: If one needs to understand the true nature of oneself, one needs to cultivate humility and carry out the duties sincerely. That reduces the mind from a dominant force of ego influenced by the senses to creative mind that is perfectly capable of exploring its own full potential. Change and evolution are natural to mind, but the presence of unchanging divine principle should be experienced by it.

Meaningful life: The Vedas teaches us that the one who lives devoid of delusion, becomes embodiment of wisdom, reaches beyond the duality of the world, achieves the height of spirituality, focuses the attention to That Thou Art, avoids impurities, immovably establishes himself/herself in Truth, becomes a witness to everything, crosses the barrier of the mind and three gunas and experiences bliss is a holy Guru.

Inner Peace: Peace denotes capacity to bear success and failure, joy and misery with perfect equanimity. It is there deep down in the very core of a being. Normally, the mind desires worldly things and once these desires are cut out, the peace becomes stronger. One needs to explore the identity of oneself to achieve peace. The human being is like one who has forgotten his/her name, address and the mission. If one delves deep inside, he/she finds the true identity which gives security and peace. Prayers and spiritual gatherings are recommended to sharpen the intellect and delve into the consciousness. Even one who doesn’t believe in Universal Absolute can pray to invoke the power within to create an encryption in the subconscious mind.

Always Blissful: The only way one is going to remain blissful is by awakening the holy spirit that drives everything from inside. The mind is a powerful tool, but given full authority to conduct life, becomes complacent and once it is trained to utilize the power of consciousness, there will be a paradigm shift in life. Seeking happiness is the nature but what is true happiness can be established only with the help of the consciousness.

Unconditional Love: Searching for God outside is like searching for the goat that is lying in the shoulder. Seeking Truth is what makes life interesting and by having a mindset that every specie is part of the whole creates the path towards unconditional love. The best way towards selflessness is to be selfish about the spiritual growth and development.

Oneness of all: Oneness (Advaita) is expressed in three forms viz. Bhaava Advaita (oneness in mental attitude), Kriya Advaita (oneness expressed in action) and Padaartha Advaita (oneness seen in all objects). Trying to align thoughts, words and deeds is the best way to strive towards this goal.

Transformation from mind to consciousness: The only way of hope in the enveloping gloom of fear and violence and cruelty, of enforced conformity, of hatred and persecution, is the peace that one can win through self-control and sadhana. That peace will pervade and puffy the inner consciousness as well as the outer atmosphere. Sadhana is the life breath of human-beings. Pomp and struggle for power is poison. The effort to transform the way we think changes how the mind unfolds the world in front of us. Dwelling inside the Truth is the way to achieve fulfillment.

Note: Expressing the above views is in no way demonstration of high-level of knowledge and it is mere expression of thoughts and experiences with an intent to seek thoughts and experiences of others. My objective here is to learn more.

    Dear Viswa,
Blessed are those who at least keep trying to inwoke this spiritual intuition.
It really needs lot of effort to lead a detached life even after completing ones duties towards the family. And to try to achieve this blissful spiritual realisation we need lot of perseverence. Not only that, we need God's Grace for that as there is a saying, "அவனருளின்றி அவனருளைப் பெற இயலாது".(without God's Grace it is difficult to obtain His Grace)

    "Thathvamasi" " That thou art"
Is referred in Chandokya Upanishad of Samaveda. The Translation in English, reads as ‘Thou art That’. Indicates, you are not anything other than thee. It means you are not anything other than the great ‘Paramatma’ (That) who is the primordial cause and the creator of this Universe .

After so many births we have now taken birth as humans. Hence we shouldn't miss the opportunity to unite with the ONE and ONLY BRAHMAM.

Though there is a long way to go, we should keep trying with undaunted effort and truthfulness.

    Dear Smt. Srinivasan:

Absolutely. You hit the nail right on the head.

    "Om Brahmanandam paramasukhadam kevalamjnaanamurtim
    Dvandvaateetam gaganasadrusham tatvamasyadi lakshyam
    Ekamnityam vimalamachalam sarvadhee saakshibhuutam
    Bhaavaateetam trigunarahitam sadgurum tam namaami."

It is a difficult path to pursue but one should keep trying until one succeeds. "Janthunam Narajanmam Dhurlabam" and it is very rare to get a human birth. We should not waste this life in pursuit of desires and attachments. It is inevitable that we will be hit with desires and attachments but we should continue to make some progress by simplifying our lives.

The grace of the Lord when it is combined with our own effort can do miracles in spiritual growth.

    Dear V sir,

I know you suggested that you hope to learn from others' experiences in your foot note and I stopped right at point one you know stress free life. Okay, I am joking. Stress free life, healing of body, mind and intellect, meaningful life (hopefully), inner peace are all things I have experienced every now and then, let me hasten to add only momentarily. I guess experiencing these at a continuous/constant pace might bring us to the state of bliss and then I am clueless. Human experiences are what make us human and I have often wondered if reaching that phase of Sthithaprajna makes us more alive. That said, I do agree with this
truly - even at my very earthly level of existence and it somehow soothes me knwoing that we have many chances. And of course grace is required.

This is the mail I have written under 'Education and Personal Growth' under 'mind over matter' written by Gauri Madam.I have reproduced it below"We have also spoken about what Brahmanandam is according to Upanishad, for which Shri Viswa has also responded.

"Recently I was reading a book on yoga mentioning therein about an Israeli Scientist who has been doing research on brain functioning for more than 20 years. What he found was that there are millions of 'cannabis' receptors in the human brain of every individual and they are developing day by day. With more of focussed research on the subject he came out with a statement that the human body is producing its own narcotic so that there are millions of cannabis receptors in our brain.Evidently the feeling of joy,,peace and pleasure can happen within us because of this chemistry.

The yoga ,it is said, can have us completely drunk and drugged, without any external output but only with simple yoga.
The reason why we are against alcohol and drugs is because they take away our awareness, spoil our health and destroy us.But yoga gives the same intoxication but keeps you awake, alert and intelligent.
There is reference to Lord Shiva, who is hailed as'Adiyogi'.
He is intoxicated all the time but extremely alert.
The author completes the article saying" I can get you drunk without alcohol, without any drug with your own system. So you are producing your own narcotic, and it has tremendous effect on well being, alertness, perception and everything"
Many people are practising yoga these days.Do they get intoxicated as drunkards do?
Do people pratise yoga with this aim also in mind?
When we read articles of such type written by globally famous yoga Gurus, what will be its impact on young minds, leave alone seniors who have got some level of maturity.
I am not a yoga practitioner;SO I don't know the feelings they experience. Is the obsession of yoga practioners not to miss yoga practice even for a single session, due to the intoxicated feeling they derive without their knowledge?
What will be the impact of such intoxication in the longer run? Will it create more alertness? Will there be more spiritual awakening? Many pragmatists advise us to be careful while treading the path of yoga, as there are more possibilities of slip.
Whether there is development or not, definitely we do not want decay."

" The explanation for Brahmanandam is more or less akin to five blind men describing an elephant. It is intoxication to some, ' lost sense' for some and a pleasant feeling of sweet nothingness vibrating through mind' for a few" writes a great Namboodiri scholar, who is a research scholar both in Economics and philosophy. He has authored many books on Economics, Money and Banking in the human psychological angle and penned a few books on comparative Siddhanthas.'
Spiritual awakening or Aathma Saakshatkaaram is a great ocean in which we are a few drops. Sometimes ignorance seems to be better. The more we read ,the more we get confused.
I get a doubt-whether the result is 'awakening or confusion.

Thanks for showing the path to remain blissful and think of Brahman pervading all over universe and remain inert live static and dynamic simultaneously.
    2. Your objective is mine too.
    3. I trust you would agree if I suggest - Let us watch feed backs and then attempt overhaul assessment.
    Thanks and Regards.
God grant us Godspeed in our earnest endeavour.

Though this exercise of sharing one's 'Enchiridion' (precepts of life) is more ancient than those bearded Greek philosophers, for now I am sidling with my Greek thrall Epictetus because he is fresh in my mind from an earlier conversation. I do have similar cheat-sheet tucked in my Evernote on fashioning my life from general thoughts and sayings. If the objective is to learn more, here is Epictetus for you.

“If anyone tells you that a certain person speaks ill of you, do not make excuses about what is said of you but answer, He was ignorant of my other faults, else he would not have mentioned these alone.”

“Man is not worried by real problems so much as by his imagined anxieties about real problems”

I love this man's succinct and universal guidelines. A more recent saying that has awakened and reshaped me:

“Don't just say you have read books. Show that through them you have learned to think better, to be a more discriminating and reflective person. Books are the training weights of the mind. They are very helpful, but it would be a bad mistake to suppose that one has made progress simply by having internalized their contents."

Man is deficit by merely 'reading' books. He must 'embody' what he has read. I cannot tell you how much that one happenstance-d axiom about exploratory reading has altered me.

    Dear Sabitha,

Thank you for sharing your invaluable experiences. You are right. We are given many opportunities to remove the encryption and that itself is a grace. In order to get that grace more, we have to attempt moving in the direction that is appreciated by the one who is in charge of the grace.

The experiences in life doesn't make us human, and on the contrary, the humans are given an opportunity to experience to make spiritual progress. Like most of the human, mind is one that never says "no" to anything even when it needs to say "no". It accepts all our weird thoughts obediently and much more controlled by our senses and without consulting our intellect. Like a winded spring trying to return to its original position removing the surface tension, it struggles how to break free. Once it learns that trick, we become stress-free.

    Dear Smt. Jayasala:

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I had a chance to read your post in "Education and Personal Growth" and understood your caution in attempting spiritual awakening. I am not sure I am capable of even recognizing the spiritual awakening even if it happens. Your caution is absolutely essential for me not to get carried away too much into it. You are considering ignorance is better but as far as I am concerned I have only ignorance and there is nothing to worry about me getting intoxicated or confused. I am at a place where I can't get any worse than where I am now.

Bliss is a final stage and I will be much more delighted even if I learn a little bit of right living without achieving the end goal of achieving bliss.

    Dear Sri Thyagarajan:

It is so nice to know that I have a company. I feel I will be the beneficiary in the process of working together with you. I am all for evaluating the progress by exchanging notes. Hopefully, the grace shines on both of us to make as much as progress in this life itself.
