    Summer!!!!!

Climate was cool because of the heavy down pour..and we really loved it..Me and my little one 10 months old loved the weather so much and we just went for a walk!!!!!!!..We were walking ahead and I just stopped by a shop by looking at cute tiny caps for my little one...

We just got in to the shop..asked for more Caps and pattern!!!

There we saw a lady who had come to purchase a birthday gift for a baby girl..Not sure if it was for her daughter or any other little girl!!!!
Just narrating down the story w.r.t the shop keeper and the Lady..
    Try
The Lady looked like a Army officer's wife..
Lady - Can you please show me some good birthday gifts??
Shop Keeper - Yes Madam Sure!!! Is it for a boy or a girl???
Lady - Girl !!!!! She was wondering why did he ask this question.
Shop Keeper - Mam here it is ..Kitchen Set !!!!
Lady - And why are you giving this specifically for a girl?
Shop keeper - Acha Madam then please go with this - Jewellery making set...she will definitely like it.
Lady - Hello Mr . What do you think??? girls are only fit for Kitchen Set,Jewellery making etc such kinds of toys..You need to change your mentality first ...What else you have?? I don't need anything from these..Next time give it to some guys so that they will get interested with these toys!!
Shop keeper - Shocked and wondering what to say!!!!
Lady - Yes !! She found a toy based on Robotics..Asked him to pack it..

I just loved the way she was..The way she spoke ..Finally she can chose the best gift and left for the day ☺️

Good one, @Ammu2886. We should try to break the gender stereo type. The lady did the right thing.

Even as I look back at my gift giving to other kids, it has been always based on age and interest. Perhaps the right questions should have been "What age group are we talking about?"

Yes, I have given girly gifts to girls only because I knew their interest and have given

rainbow looms, crazy bands to boys as well - again interest based!

So long as the birthday girl is interested in robotics , thats a fine gift .

We all agree there should be no gender seggregation in toys for children. But reality is that some girls do love dolls and kitchen sets . And why not ! Its all individual preference .
Neither should we force gender coded toys and colors on kids . Nor should we force our views of equality if a child shows her preference for anything . We cannot refuse to give a girlchild a pink frock if she loves the colour , just because we feel “ Pink for Girls and Blue for Boys” is stereotyping.

Gifts should be chosen based on tbe receivers real interest .

That’s a good one Ammu. Whatever the kids interest is what matters. Robotics or Legos or kitchen sets. Nice share

Way to go Ammu! These kids will be in a far advanced world when they grow up. They may go for a vacation to the moon! There was a time when the mothers beckoned the moon to come rushing down as they fed their children. It's now time Robotics. Times change much faster than it did a century back!

    Ammu,

The best part is we don't have to even teach the modern day children how to play with Robatics Toy. They will learn on their own.

Good snippet with a valuable message. It is essential for girls to be exposed to traditionally male domains right from infancy, but as a previous poster said, one must keep the child's interests in mind. I am an engineer working in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence, but by some miracle I have given birth to the girliest girl there ever was! My daughter watches Bollywood songs with rapt attention and calls the women in those songs 'princesses' because of their elaborate costumes. She wants to dress and dance like the 'princesses'. She likes everything glittery, sparkly and pink. Believe me when I say that for the first 3 years of her life all she had were her brother's hand me down toys—firetrucks, Avengers and Lego. She likes running around with Iron man and Hulk but she also enjoys dressing them up and tucking them in bed once in a while. She plays soccer but her heart is in dance. I don't know where she inherited these traits from but I am certain they are not the result of nurture. I won't force a robotics kit on her simply to make a point. She is very young and might still end up pursuing her parents' interests as most children do, but for now I will let her enjoy her tutus and jewelry.

I feel the lady's treatment of the shopkeeper was unnecessarily harsh. It is good to take a principled stand about issues but it doesn't give us the right to foist those views on those around us. The shopkeeper was simply going by supply and demand economics. He suggested girly toys because that is what sells. After all the man needs to make a living. It is not a shopkeeper's job to stand up for gender neutrality, that is a parent's responsibility.

This is just too cute ! Hope she ends up pursuing dance and making mamma G proud with a bollywood number all dressed up in pink and glitter and be a kickass Robotics engineer.
    +1.

No, She will still be designing and developing Bots that would float in the bloodstream to cure diseases while playing soccer and exploring variety of dances. Mother G will be awestruck.

Frankly, the lady will be judged by the shopkeeper as the most suppressed woman for flaring up to a total stranger.
