    :hello:Winning Husbands Offline:hello:

In the gadget-less-era, one afternoon in sweltering heat of May at Chennai, in the company of my bosom friend- a film fanatic- I happen to go to a movie theatre for buying tickets for for first-day-first-show, of thespian Sivaji Ganesan starrer bbbbTamil film.

Seeing serpentine queue in front of men’s section counter for the class of our choice, we decided to try out other options to secure the tickets.

Issue of tickets commences first in the ladies’ section, where each is permitted to buy up to two tickets at a time.

We spotted behind a 8’ tall collapsible-steel barrier, two college-going sisters of our locality known to us only by face, were standing in shade in the middle of few women in queue.

As luck would have it, one of them came out of the queue for some purpose and when she walked at a closer proximity, my friend smilingly gestured gently and politely enquired her whether she with her friend in the queue could buy additional ticket for two of us.

She cast a modest smile and answered in the affirmative; then through the collapsible barrier, my friend passed on to her the exact cash for cost of two tickets. We were left delighted and rejoiced with our luck and...

Few moments later, a long loud ring was buzzing, indicating commencement of issue of tickets. Ah! At that moment being in our teens, experienced a thrill coursing through our blood!

At the same time, many men had crowded around us and few of them had turned up with their rest of family, turning the environs smelling talc and sweat, while their women (?!) or their spouse intermittently shifting ahead in ladies’ queue at a distance.

When we watched ladies queue moving ahead at greater pace, our heart have had missed a couple of beats.

    Few moments gone by.

We saw a bejewelled buxom saree clad lady leaving the counter with two pink-coloured tickets between her fingers, walking in full glee toward the collapsible barrier looking for her husband.

Not spotting her hubby in our midst, she wiping beads of sweat from her eyebrows exclaimed tad loudly “Oh my God! Where is my husband?

From behind us, several open palms went up, answering in full throated voice in chorus “here I am”.

:) Nice snippet! I remember witnessing such excited scenes in my childhood. In those days young men and women would have a transformed personality once they were at the movie theatres; young men would be at their chivalrous best aping their favourite hero and the giggly young women exuded all their charming delicate personas like their favourite heroines! Could we call that a 'courtship display' by the young men and women of yore? As an awkward youngster, I used to find their temporarily excited behaviour very amusing, even better than the movie itself!

Current crop of youngsters are more casual and direct, they don't have such filmy courtship displays!

    :hello:Thanks.
In the term “courtship display” you had stuffed many anecdotes; it flooded my mind many incidents hilarious and sad as well!
I appreciate your crispy apt comment relevant to those old times.
When the main picture title about to start, lights dimmed and few late comers walked through a row searching for their seats somewhere in middle. One man cried “ah” bit loudly and a female voice apologised for stepping on his foot. Then followed “ oh! Then Do it again.
    Regards.
