    The fall of Ming Dynasty...

They were in power for 276 years between the 13th and 16th century in China.

Me not a history buff, shall limit myself to just the above information and shall share with you, personally how the fall of the Ming Dynasty affected a friend of mine living in this era.

He is a collector of artifacts not for the historical value but for the financial gains they might bring in.

A year before he picked up a ceramic ware assumed to be from the Ming dynasty, believably old enough to date back to the Mings from a suburb in London, selling artifacts @ GBP 600/- He had great hopes in making a few bucks a little later. The piece had an inscription "ming" and few other words which were defaced probably due to the centuries having passed by.

Having bought quite a few pieces and making money, he seemed an expert while having bought it.

Now he decides to sell the piece and approached a vendor dealing in buying/selling artifacts.

Proudly he picks the piece out of the bag, all smiles and lays on the table. Hey there, could you offer me price for this "Ming"ware?

The real expert picks it up and our guy yells careful, careful. The buyer scorns and smiles OK, OK.

You state your price sire, GBP 1,000/- is fine with me.

The smile turned a wry. Sorry am not interested. Why? Not worth it.

The "Ming"s it is, yes sir it is, from Birmingham.

What??? Yes sir didn't you hear what I said? No, you must be joking to make a killing buy.

No not really, if you are serious, offer a better price.

A Ming piece you call it's from Birmingham?

Yes sir it is an old piece but not from the "Ming" but from Birmingham, the "Bir" and the "ham" has been defaced and you paid a price for the "Ming" in Birmingham.

Terribly wild for having been fooled of GBP 600/-, he with wild anger just broke the piece throwing it down.

Sir, sir, still i would have taken it for 300/- but you just blew it away.

Yelling out of pain, the Ming dynasty fell away under his feet...

Be it artifacts, bitcoins, shares & stocks, never jump in with out adequate knowledge, is the lesson to learn.

Funny it was when he narrated and he learnt the lesson, teaching me too.

Sad. But wish he'd accepted the 1000 quid. He'd still have made a profit of 66%.

True, one can never be careful enough and even so one can never be a 100% sure.

You're probably joking, but just in case this is a real story, your friend is in greater trouble that he realizes.
I would not imagine that the ceramic artists of the middle kingdom would deign to inscribe their work in English.

    Dear GG,
As you have started the post with a historical incident which I am not aware of, I thought you are well versed with old history.
After reading the post I feel sad for your friend who got cheated while buying artifact for making money by reselling it for profit.
My dil has a passion for collecting old artifacts.

Hey GG, I am going to take this as a funny incident and not consider that it has anything to do with Ming Dynasty. Recently I watched 'Hey Jude' Malayalam movie and one character holds an Antique Gallery where they sell ancient artifacts. And the character will lie obviously to sell so many artifacts. Was reminded of this when read your snippet. Can't take everything at face value. Need to be extra cautious in such things. Feel sorry for your friend. Nice write-up.

Hey GG - Been so long, how you been ??

Was wondering why on earth did you pick "Ming" dynasty now, so unlike you  . Life teaches lessons in ways you least expect no doubt there. Somehow feel there's more to the story than what you say here ;) , being me would think that way.

He should have simply walked away with 300 bucks GG, something is better than nothing :).

Lesson built in with humor. Now good that he didn’t find Hing powder in an old container with LG H defaced and thought it to be an expensive spice from Ming period ...
