    Hi All,

I had intermittent fever for 6 days with cold, cough and allergy, I took meds which were mostly antibiotics prescribed by the doctor for respiratory infection. On the last day of fever I started having wheezing and breathing problem with cough. It has been persistent since then (4 days now). I have been on omnacortil, montek lc, heterezan and gentamicin along with continous use of levolin inhaler but no use.
I went to apollo hospital today and was given nebulization which did not help either. I came home and took 2 puffs of levolin, still no use.
What can this be? Is it normal to have breathing issues after suffering from cold and fever? Why am I not finding lasting relief even after taking all these meds?

Right now I have been put on montek lc, defcort6, distaclor cd, deriphyllin retard 150 and nebulization with levolin and budecort twice a day. One dose is over and has been 3 hours, I have only mild relief. Cough and wheezing returning as soon as I am lying down (propped up on 3 pillows). I am hoping with my fingers crossed that the new meds will help over night.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. If this is normal and will reduce on it's own, please let me know so I can stop bothering.

PS: I have had asthma as a teenager, and mostly free of it after my early twenties.

    Hi shabnam,

I am sorry for your current sickness and sincerely wish you gt fine soon. My mom is a chronic asthma patient and whenever she gets a cold all the symptoms you have mentioned follows on. Even a week before she had severe wheezing and coughing spells after a fever cold episode. She was on azithromycin and budecort which she takes daily for wheezing. You are already having powerful medicines and I highly recommend you to start folllowing some home remedies for some relief.
What my mom used to do:
    1) Always drink hot water during a wheezing spell and she eats very light food like idli and rasam rice
    2) We are vegetarians but its said that chicken soup is the best for coughing spells
    3) Try your best not to take any cough syrups. If need arises try himalaya cough syrup. it worked for some extent.
    4) Steam inhalation and expuling the sputum whenever time permits say thrice a day
    5) Drink soups loaded with garlic and pepper
    6) Tulsi water daily improves your overall immunity
Most important: Nip the cold at its bud. Whenever you get a sore throat that is the earliest indication of impending cold, immediately start salt water gargling every 3 hours and get rid of it..then the probability of getting full blown cold reduces drastically.

    Take care. get well soon.

consult a pulmonologist @ShabnamF thr heat, the excessive sweating has this similar symptoms everywhere. lot of my friend facing similar conditions but have got better with a stronger a/b.

did you tell them you are on other meds

sometimes our body needs a different combination to click.

that is a lot of meds as a fellow wheezer that is a lot and you need to keep your energy levels up. i am also suffering with the same cold, cough and breathlessness..

keep sipping ginger lemom honey tea to keep the cough under control. do not go into ac cooled room before your sweat cools off..

    Hi Shanvy,

Yes, I have mentioned the other meds. I have never had to take so many medications, I always find relief within 1 or 2 puffs of inhaler. Even after all this medication I still have cough and wheezing. I have wheezing only on the left side of the chest, even the doctor confirmed this. I have taken 2 doses of the meds the apollo doc prescribed so far. I am hoping I will find some relief soon. I will also try ginger and honey tea, lemon does not suit me.
I hope you get well soon too. Like you said may be the weather is the culprit. I will consult a pulmonologist if I am not getting any better.

Thanks a lot Sweety. I am sorry that your mom is suffering too, hope she gets well soon. I will try the home remedies you have suggested. I am already taking a very lite diet since the fever started.
Yes, I am always very careful about cold symptoms and try to reduce the issue before it aggravates.
This is the first time I am having persistent cough and wheezing, I am worried bcoz it's not getting better after all these meds.

I don't have anyone to take care of me. My mother is in Malaysia, my father and brother are here but it is as good as being alone, they just don't know how to take care of a sick person.

I am having pretty bad side effects from the meds I am taking, I'm sleeping all day and night and whenever I am awake I am very cranky and angry and I am crying. It feels like I am in some kind of a daze. I just don't know what to do anymore. I still have cough and wheezing but it is in control. I only took the antibiotic tablet this morning hoping that not taking the other meds will stop the side effects.

you are strong @ShabnamF we dont need any body to take care. keep water, simple food close by and take all
meds and sleep it off. dont just do the ab alone. the combination is what works

order simple food if possible. even juices are available with an order on swiggy..

The whole world is busy in thier own lives and there is not one person capable to take care of m
I usually don't need anyone to care for me but today I actually needed. The meds put me in a trance like state where I was not aware of what was happening. I had no awareness of time or the need to eat or drink or take medicine. My moods were extreme, I was furious with everyone. I kept on telling that I am having side effects due to my meds but no one cared.
I called my doctor and he asked me to see him right away. He repeated my chest x ray n CBP. He said I have a super added infection. He changed all my meds as I had very bad side effects and put me on a diiferent antibiotic along with omnacortil and cough syrup.
I am still not feeling myself but I am better aware of my surroundings. Thanks for your concern Shanvy, you have always been a very supporting and empathetic person. I wish all the happiness in this world for you.
