    Hi all,
I had my routine eye exam today. I haven't tested my eyes for the past 5 or 6 years. I don't wear any eyeglasses or contact lenses. I am very new to this eyeglasses terminology and other stuff.

I had a feeling of some pressure above my right eye and went to optometrist to check on that. I don't have any pain. Just feel like a pressure above my eye. He tested and said, there are no issues inside my eyes and while testing to read the alphabets on the board, I feel little difficult to read few letters and he prescribed an eyeglass for me. He said the eyeglass may help to relieve my pressure like feeling and try wearing for 2 weeks. Then told me to check with my PCP after that if this problem continues. He said,it might be due to sinus infection. So I have to check with PCP.

The prescription says some values and I don't really understand what are those. I went to the nearby optic store and they didn't accept my insurance for the eyeglass. So,I came back. I am checking for some stores which accept the insurance. The prescription says, the sphere value for RT is -0.25 and LT is Plano. The cylinder for RT is -0.75 and LT is -0.25.

I don't know what to check while buying the eyeglass. Or the optician will help us to get the required eyeglass with all those mentioned values. Can somebody help me to understand the things to look when buying an eyeglass. What is the chepaer store to buy an eyeglass? Any online sites available or in store?

    Thanks for reading this.

    Hi OP
Please check with your vision insurance provider for participating stores. You can also submit your claim for maximum allowed amount after purchase.

some pharmacies carry glasses with prescription numbers as you mentioned. Most of the stores which have optics dept will carry frames. (Walmart Costco Sams club BJS Sears LensCrafters Pearle Vision ) Usually the optometrist will be associated with the store. We can select a suitable frame and there might be some copay associated with it. Then you give your prescription and based on lens (Transition Polycarbonate scratch resistant anti glare) there might be additional copay for lens. With the same insurance plan I paid under $25 for eyeglasses while another member of my family paid upto $200. Depends on frame and lenses

    Hope this helps.

Most vision prescription covers eye exam and up to $100 worth of frame. Insurance pays some amount of prescription glasses.

I wear my glasses most of the time. Light weight frame, glasses and anti scratch, anti reflection coating and transition glasses (turns into sun glasses). Usually, I go to pearl vision and they are good in helping you to select your frames that fits you in a price range. It costs $500, top of the slim rimless frame etc. I claim that it is like a jewellery for me!

Thank you for the reply Suma.
What is hsa card? Is it something like medical card? Where did you buy the glasses?

Call up your insurance company and see which places are covered.

    Hi

Apart from family insurance deducted in salary a small amount was deducted towards HSA. We have got a hsa card which can be used to make medical related payment. Over couple of years around 2k$ was collected in Hsa.
Otherwise our insurance is fit for nothing. We just end up paying ~500$. But to use my insurance I need to wait till I meet 3000$ deductible. Only after that our 80/20 kicks in.. I was saved by hsa card for my gynec and eye visit. Or should have shell out ~700$ for both...

    From internet..

Your HSA dollars can be used to help pay the health insurance deductible and qualified medical expenses, including those not covered by the health insurance, like dental and vision care

    One my friend did this.

She was not able to see far letters and far things were blur. She waited(managed) for 2months. When yearly insurance could be edited or modified they included for eye insurance paying very little amount and utilised eye check up and glasses after eye insurance kicked in..
