Chapter-49


Priya was swarmed by Jai’s colleagues, friends and relatives in hospital. That day Jai was undergoing a surgery and she was busy with that as well. It took her sometime to check about Sriram to Vijay.

‘He has a temperature Priya. They are keeping him in hospital to check whether this is because of injuries. If all well they will discharge him tomorrow.’ Vijay said. Vijay was an amazing support and guide to Jai’s family.


‘Thanks anna. I’ll have a look at him.’ Priya said as she was about to enter Sriram’s room.


‘Are you feeling better now? I spoke to him and he has lot of things going on at his end. I really felt bad for the way he reacted.’ Priya cried to Vijay previous day about Srikanth’s behavior.


‘I’m okay. I was bit emotional as I didn’t expect it from Srikanth…’ she said. A call to her mobile announced yet another visitor for Jai. Since Jai was in Critical care unit and unconscious everyone who visited met only Priya.



When Vijay was talking to Sriram , Srikanth entered the room.


‘How are you? Do you want anything?’ Srikanth asked coming closer to his brother.


‘I want adults in the family to behave like adults. Srika..you acted like a complete jerk yesterday to Priya…’ Sriram said.


‘Wow..atleast one of my nephew is talking sense.’ Vijay said and looked at Srikanth who was looking at floor. ‘I always thought you both shared an amazing bond with Priya. Do you really mean what you said?’ Srikanth kept looking at floor while Vijay spoke to him.


‘No..I regretted it as soon as it came from my mouth. I don’t know why I said so. I was angry at several things especially chairman..He unnecessarily interrupted my presentation..’ Srikanth said breaking the silence engulfed in the room.


‘You informed him of your project plans first. By the way let’s discuss that later. I want you to clear it out with Priya, especially as you are leaving to college tomorrow‘ Sriram demanded. ‘We gave her the confidence to her pursue dad , she has been anything but step motherly. ‘ he pointed.


‘Srikanth, she remained like a rock even when your father was badly injured but she couldn’t handle your accusation. She broke down to me.’ Vijay explained. ‘I think you were mad at her as she was able to handle emotions well wherein you couldn’t. Am I right?’ he asked.


‘That too. I’ll talk to her now.’ Srikanth stepped out of the room.


‘Okay I’m due for my consultation round. Try to sleep for sometime Sriram.’

Srikanth was walking aimlessly in hospital corridor. There were several times yesterday he wanted to apologize to Priya. He knew he acted in an immature manner.

Priya was talking to someone in the hospital corridor and as soon as Srikanth neared them, the lady standing next to her remarked:


‘You need not introduce him. This must be Jai’s son, he looks like how Jai was looking during his college days.’ She said and introduced herself as Maya Krishnan, batchmate of Jai.


Once she left Srikanth was standing awkwardly near Priya who attended a business call before paying attention to him.


‘Sorry to keep you waiting Srikanth. Your father is undergoing surgery at the moment. It is supposed to be over soon…’


‘Priya I came to talk to you..I don’t know how to put it across. I didn’t mean what I said .I was angry,disappointed, tired and whole lot of things yesterday. I’m sorry Priya. Whatever it is I shouldn’t have said what I said.’ Srikanth looked at her eyes sincerely.


‘It’s okay..’ Priya mumbled collapsing in the chair.


‘It’s not okay. You have all rights to be angry at me , as a mom, as a friend…’Srikanth sat next to her. ‘Priya the reason I don’t call you as mom is I really hate my mother. You know about it.’


‘Srikanth you know what I know and understand you perfectly. I was bit emotional as I never expected to hear those words..’ she said assuring him.


‘Sorry once again…I actually overheard your meeting with chairman yesterday night.’Sriknath confessed.


‘I know that. You are a sloppy spy. Don’t wear too much of perfume if you want to succeed in this field..Jokes apart do you realize that almost all the problems are solved. Your brother would be okay in a day or two, knowing your father he will bounce back soon ..’ she said.


A nurse came and announced ‘Patient is brought to the post surgery room. You can see him for a minute now.’ She said.


‘I can’t believe dad will never be able to walk without support.’ Srikanth said coming out of post operative room.


‘I know. But yeah let’s accept it. Almost all the doctors have confirmed the same. Post some physiotherapy sessions he will be able to walk with support of walking stick.’ She said.


‘It hurts. He was a man on the run.’ Srikanth remarked.


‘He will still be.’ She said firmly.’ Your father will not be down because something like this happened to him.’


Her belief in Jai was stronger than ever and it soothed her.

One of my close friend at work expired unexpectedly and i had to take several baby steps to come out of it.
