The alarm rang at sharp 5:00AM, as usual I snoozed and continued to sleep.mini me started kissing and cuddling me, with a smile on my face I hugged her and woke up.

I took her to the bathroom to give her a shower, turned on the tap and after 30 minutes got a handful of water, immediately i washed her body with this.
Yes this is the way I was forced to give her a bath because of the water scarcity everywhere.

Every drop of water was precious and costlier than gold. My little angel wouldn’t believe when I told her in those days we had running water in the taps and, we would not turn off the taps inspite of water being filled in water tubs, we would keep the tap on while brushing our teeth.

We would wash our cars and bikes with running water and wouldn’t bother to turn off the tap
We all conveniently thought that nothing was happening to the water
There was lot of slogans and awareness about saving the water, however we were ignorant and careless and did not heed a word about those things.

I remember as a child I saw lot of parks, gardens and greenery everywhere which was now replaced by lot of sky scrapers. 8 glasses of water was recommended for drinking those days, but now we are forced to drink only quarter glass of water irrespective of being thirsty.

My mini me was both shocked and surprised listening to my words.she wanted to know when can she use water for her basic requirements, and why did the earlier generations not save water and why was there no initiative taken. It was like a slap on my face, because I hadn’t done anything to save the water too, i was comfortably blaming others for not doing.I never realized modernization was slowly making way to deforestation which in turn led to lack of rainfalls and scarcity of water. It was a vicious circle.
I should have done my part of saving the water, however I had not.

I held my little one’s palm and promised that I would not waste water and will do my part of saving it, when suddenly I heard my mini me’s voice, “ Mumma what are you telling, what do you want to save”?
I opened my eyes and saw that i was next to her on the bed, It did not take much time for me to understand that the whole thing was a dream.

I hope the coming generations are lucky enough to see the natural water bodies like river, lakes etc and are not surprised by the mention of the word water.

Let’s not wait for a day when we repent and curse ourselves and would have reached the stage where nothing can be done, lets pledge to save the water and save ourselves.

What are some of the steps you have taken to save water?

You have raised a good point, Nandu. Water scarcity is affecting a lot of people around the globe yet we close our eyes and act as if allis well. Our government allocated around 6000crores to build a monument for Shivaji Maharaj and ditto for Sardar Patel. Instead, had they started a rainwater storing and harvesting plan in the drought hit areas across our nation in the names of these national heroes, people would be more appreciative. Common people have no say in a Democratic nation!

When we were kids, we depended on well water and I have seen how my parents struggled to draw and store water. I have been very conscientious and prudent since then.

Good one @nandinimithun ! When I read about Cape Town and Day Zero, it was a wake up call towards the harsh reality - There s a place that has run out of water almost completely! How long will it take for us to reach that cruel spot? We hear a lot of campaigns on saving water and planting trees but how much we act on it is still a question!

    Food for thought write up!

From childhood I dint like to waste water though there was no scarcity at my place ! Used to turn off the taps if by mistake anyone forgot to turn it off .But now hearing tat Bangalore is soon gonna be Next Cape Town feeling really scared ! Can’t imagine tat situation at all ! As you mentioned it’s everyone’s duty to save and use it only as required ! So our future generations are not affected by it. Government should take some initiatives to use sea water as much as possible . Stop contaminating rivers due to factories tat produce so much of waste tat pollutes the river! Our very own Ganges and many other rivers are being polluted in the name of holy river . I Also feel main reason is deforestation and urbanisation . All the trees are being cut and made way for huge buildings. All lakes are converted into housing colonies so it’s obvious tat wen there are heavy rains it causes flooding but no water for drinking inspite. Both state and centre should implement strict laws for preventing the cutting of trees and promote planting trees . So it cuts down pollution as well .
