What is a pinnacle of awareness? Perceiving is not the same as experiencing. Our mind perceives what consist of a three-dimensional anatomical structure as the body whereas it is nothing but a receptacle of flow of energy and information. In this very moment, our body is experiencing change and several atoms and molecules as in the rest of the universe is being replaced faster than the speed at which we function in our day to day life. Trillions of cells are constantly interacting to each other as they keep our heart beating, mind thinking, digest food and convert it into energy, activate neurons, inhale and exhale oxygen/carbon dioxide, eliminate toxins, give us immunity from infection and disease. Despite these series of actions appear to be out of our conscious control, hundreds of studies show that our mind holds more power over our body than anything else.

How do we unlock this great potential of our mind into our daily lives? One of the keys to harnessing this potentially unlimited power of the mind is to expand our level of self-awareness. When our awareness is contracted, the flow of energy and information throughout our body mind complex is hampered. Is limiting our thoughts the best way to ameliorate our awareness? It is far from the truth and to effectively evade consistent flow of our thoughts, we need to arrest the source of such thoughts. If this source as taught by the Rishis is coming from our past actions, there is no way to control them. Most of them practice and suggest pursuing recitation of a name or visualizing a form to wipe out the time that the mind could find to pursue other thoughts.

Much simpler solution for a beginner like me is always a practical way that others have pursued and succeeded or what I have accidentally found out in my real-life experience. The first step is to be passionate about everything I do in my life, experiences I fill it with and feel good about the lessons I learn everyday out of my own experiences. I remain open to as much suggestions and recommendations as possible and I receive them with no judgment, rigid beliefs and prejudices. I don’t limit myself with my past experiences and deny receipt of a new information. I listen carefully to other points of view with the same amount of respect that I give to my own views. I use my discriminating power as much as possible and when I believe I have taken a very informed decision, take responsibility for making such conscious choice even if it ends up as a wrong decision and move on. Forgive myself as quickly as possible and focus on the present moment. Every minute in my life is the first minute of the rest of my life experiences.

Mostly, anger, denial, fear, guilt, grief and shame are major factors influence my life negatively. They are the psychological barriers for me to be aware constantly. They block my vision towards reality. As I mentioned earlier, when a thought is soldered with negative emotions, it is empowered with unwanted energy and therefore, to the extent possible, I prefer to remain emotionally resilient to prevent myself becoming rigid. Emotions are unavoidable but not uncontrollable. Transparency in life creates a significant amount of freedom for me to remain constantly aware and when I keep secrets about myself for a prolonged period, it acts as a psychological barrier to be aware. To the extent possible, avoid regrets of the past actions or fear about the uncertain future. What will be, will be.

The life is meant to experience changes and resisting change is the biggest obstacle in being aware. I am a believer that everything around me is happening for a reason to communicate something to me. I am slowly becoming a receiver of energy and information and distributing them back to the environment around me. I am neither a creator nor a creation and I am neither a receiver nor a giver. My purpose is to be aware of the connected universe and enjoy being in the present moment. Neither condemnation nor praise belong to me as I am just a receptacle meant to realize the truth, be aware constantly and experience bliss.

That was a nice read Viswa sir.

Totally unrelated to this but wanted to share this. Have u tried Mexican Guava available here? If I just held the fruit in my hand for a while and had it the flavor stays a long time in our breath even after having coffee or Tea.. With every breath I inhale I get the sweet flavor that keeps me so satisfied for a very long period of time not wanting to eat anything else. Felt like that reading your snippet where I would want to read, re-read and retain the essence for a longer time.

You have gine into the subject very deeply .
I donot fully understand how i can separate myself from my body and my everyday experiences . Those are what tells me i am a living creature . I act and react as that creature only . How not to be that ?
Detachment is truly very difficult .

    Dear Viswa uncle
Thanks read this morning. Then came back again to get most of it. What I like the most about you is uncle you not only tell the philosophy but also how do you practice. That make a person like me to see that it is possible. I wish I can reach your state in years to come. Whenever I think I am getting better then there will be an incident that will make me to react or judge or defend my self. So I will go down the ladder once more and then will try to climb.

This reminds me, in Upanishad it says we have five layers: body, senses, emotions, intelligence and ego. We need to travel through one by one and I was shocked to realise that who was the last layer. I am thinking of how to attack this issue. I think my being in the moment we can try to get rid of the attachment associated with body, senses and the emotions associated with it. But then I don’t understand how to poke through intelligence and ego. So far I thought I detach myself from body, senses and emotions then I am up there. But apparently it is not.

Now I will re re read again your post once more to learn and create the enjoyable moment as @jskls said.
    Thank you uncle

    Dear Lakshmi,

Absolutely. It smells so good and the white cream in it is very unique and different. Smelling that Guava is a very fulfilling experience. I am truly humbled and honored by your kind words of comparing my snippet with the smell of Mexican Guava. This is the best complement I have received so far from anyone in IL.

    Dear Viswa sir,

Intense and insightful write-up as usual!

As I read and re-read the post, I tried to visualize and accept what you have said in the above lines (and failed miserably every time I did)!

Practical, well thought-out and effective steps towards self-awareness and a positive way of life! Would be of great help to someone like me who is still taking baby steps in this area!

I believe, it will take years of patience and perseverance from my end to reach there! Thanks again for this thought-provoking write-up

    @SCSusila,

You don't have to separate yourself from your body. Whenever there is ache in our body, we always say, "my body is aching" and therefore, it is already embedded in our system. "My mind is very disturbed" is what we say when we are agitated. What makes us separate ourselves from our body and mind? Leave them as they are and what I am suggesting to do is to keep observing everything around us with deep sense of interest and curiosity with no judgment. Accept everything that happens around us as though they are meant to happen for telling us something. A new thought is like a freshly cooked-meal and don't retain it for too long as it would become stale. Become a receptacle receiving information and energy from elsewhere and distribute it through our thoughts, words and actions. If something is not positive, let us eliminate like our body eliminating waste.

Inhale and exhale as though we are experiencing positive energy entering and taking out all the negative energy. Be prepared to change and be receptive to such change. Don't delve into the past nor worry about the future. Live in the present moment and try to experience how every living being and inanimate objects are interconnected. @Gauri03 talked about how the presence of bees made the difference to her garden in her earlier snippet. Similar to that let us experience how each animal, insect and plant are contributing to the well-being of this beautiful planet. Let us live in the sense of belonging and sense of gratitude and eliminate the sense of pride and sense of selfishness.

    Dear Rajeni,

I am very humbled by your words of appreciation.

Our body is described as "Shetra" and the consciousness that resides in us is known as "Shetrajna". For lack of better term, let us consider this body as the temple where a pure and unsullied consciousness resides. There are twenty five constituents known as five organs of actions, five sense organs, five life-breaths, five sensory faculties besides four inner instruments known as the mind, the will, the ego and the constant integrated awareness. The life-force is the twenty-fifth element in our body. Other than the pure and unsullied consciousness, everything else is transient in nature and they grow, regrow and deteriorate.

Once we assume ourselves as a recipient of information and energy like a storage house only to be distributed later, we detach ourselves with all that happens around us and inside of us. We become fully aware of the life-force that functions everything inside as well as outside. Experiencing awareness every second is the ultimate goal but we can start with a few fleeting moments with the awareness.

Patience and perseverance are byproduct of the effort to achieve purity. Like cleansing our body everyday, we need to focus what is the best way to purify our mind. The most practical suggestion for this is to remain aware in the present moment. We are a powerhouse/data warehouse capable of receiving energy/information and distribute them. We use our instruments to receive and disseminate and has no ownership to anything. Even the instruments are temporary and let us take no pride of these instruments and use them to learn out of our life experiences.
