Thank you! I am going to try this. Does the oil have to be coconut? I use mustard oil in my hair. Could I make this with mustard oil?

The original recipe calls for coconut oil as mentioned by Dr Jaykrishnan in the video.I am not sure if this can be made with mustard oil, usually they use coconut oil or sesame oil as a base. For ex Neeli bringadhi oil is available in coconut oil and sesame oil base.If you like to try with mustard oil please go ahead and let me know if it works. If you are looking for a herbal oil for hair loss remedy using mustard oil,you could try this.

Hair oil remedy for female pattern baldness/hair loss by Dr Elchuri

    250 ml of mustard oil
    80 grams fresh henna leaves
Pour mustard oil in a kadai and keep it on a low flame, the oil must be kept on a low flame through out the entire process.Keep adding the henna leaves in small batches as they turn black. When all the leaves turn black, remove from heat, cool and strain.Store in a glass jar, apply to scalp regularly.

You could also try the mustard oil and fenugreek seed remedy for grey hair as mentioned in my "Ayurvedic Hair Care" post.
    Good luck,
    Veena

@Gauri03 you can replace coconut with mustard I think mustard oil has loads of benefits just like coconut oil. Mustard has protein and omega 3 no wonder Banga hair is equally beautiful

Thanks Shanvy. I will definitely try it. My mother always used mustard oil for hair and body massage. It is a habit that has stayed with me.

i used to crush a few pods of garlic in mustard and heat to fuming state cool and store. apply on ds and dd before layering in winter. it is basicaly retains heat. so sesame is coolant and is found more in south and mustard is heat and found in abundance in north. nature balanced..

no harm in using the oil as base.

Of course mustard oil has a lot of benefits. While all these oils are good for hair - coconut oil, sesame oil, olive oil, mustard oil, castor oil and sweet almond oil, each oil has different properties. But in ayurveda while making herbal oils they are very keen about the ingredients, procedure and measurements as they believe in certain combinations. Since I do not have access to an ayurvedic specialist I am not sure if the combo works with mustard oil. However, no harm in experimenting as its only for external usage. :)
