Hi @Jey, @Induslady : You might consider creating a "Career" forum and moving it to the top level. After all, this is one of the most important things for the independent 21st century Indian woman! At the moment, these threads are buried under "Lifestyle". That's OK for people who know their way around IL, but not for newbies. Surely, one needs a job and $$$ before one can acquire any kind of style? I suggest you separate "Lifestyle" - which might focus on decisions between a Maserati and a BMW - from the business of getting a job to be able to pay for those!

One option: "Education, Training, Jobs, Careers, & Entrepreneurship" as a separate section under "Topical Forums". The "Working Women", "Indian Women Entrepreneurs" and "Working from Home" sections can go under here.

E&PG may then become "Learning & Personal Growth" or "Lifelong Learning & Personal Growth".

I am making this suggestion after replying to a job-query posted under "Women in MA", that had had no replies in 3 weeks!!!

Oops @Jey, @ILadmin: could you please help edit the title of this thread? I just realized that I cannot do it! The 'C' in 'Careers' and the 't' in "Topical ..." should be upper-case . That sort of thing drives me crazy - It is visually so inelegant!!

Back to the main topic. I agree. But, there is not much activity there. If a topic is of interest, it will find some activity, even if it is buried like EP&G and General Discussions did. Thoughts?

That's a chicken and egg question! :wink1: I see what you mean by ordering based on activity - that makes perfect sense. I was actually thinking about it from a different angle - from the point of view of a poster. This business of finding a job, finding one in the US (or anywhere else as an immigrant/visitor), changing careers, making money, being/becoming independent etc. can be a source of great stress. So, even if the actvity level may be low, for someone in a tricky situation it may provide an outlet, no matter how modest. I would like it if such members had an unambiguous section, easily discovered. Moreover, if there are thoughtful posts and links, any random reader may benefit.

Or perhaps, it may be far simpler to change the "Lifestyle" title to "Careers/Lifestyle". That would do it, methinks! :beer-toast1:

You are right, but queries on career are often location-specific and a good proportion of them get buried in the region forums. Some even end up in general discussions, E&G and rel forum. Could that affect activity in terms of gross numbers? Entrepreneurship, careers, and finance are no longer optional pursuits for women. They are imperative concerns, and a dedicated space might better reflect the new generation of IL-ites. Just something to consider.

PS: Please don't take Dr S' advice and cannibalize the education from E&G. :p I am partial to that forum!

E&G did not find activity until Neurons puzzle thread became wildly popular. And that was by chance. One theory about that 'chance' could be that it caught my interest during a moment of temporary but acute vexation with some thread in Relationship forum.

General Discussions finds activity due to being a catch-all case for threads that don't directly belong elsewhere.

Many career, working related threads go under H4 forum and other sections.

I've been thinking of suggesting such a move for a while. It was also suggested a while back by @madras2018 Why No Forum For Women's Career ?

Usually, a forum gets moved up if there is activity. In this case, a departure from that order might be needed.

Like Gauri said, to reflect the new generation of ILites.

+1. Please don't take Soka's advice for that. In fact, as penance for dispensing such sacrilegious advice, he should serve as moderator of the upgraded forum for a while.

    Good Morning. : )

    OK, fine!
    Fine?
    Fine!
    Really?
    I said fine, didn't I?! ...
    :mad::smash2:

Actually, I'm not married to "my idea". I was thinking about "education" under two different guises:
    (a) Education as credentialing - a necessary evil that brings us this day our daily bread, perhaps with a little help from YKW.
    (b) True "learning" as a labor of love, degrees be damned.
I was actually proposing a more rarefied elevation for E&PG!!!
    :roflmao:

I completely agree to the need for this. What I am thinking is how to give it maximum chance for vibrancy. Just increased exposure alone might not be enough. Any thoughts for that?

@sokanasanah, I am not as erudite as the neuron folks. In plain language, what does your message mean? Is that an "Yes, I am interested in being the founding moderator for that forum."? :grinning:
