There are so many mantras to recite 108 times a day But how do we know which mantra is suitable to us I used to recite Gayatri Mantra but I did not feel it in heart so I stopped. Now someone bought up chanting Mahamrityunjay Mantra and it's also recommended (according to YouTUBE) to recite 108 times a day. Any advice on reciting mantras. I really believe if you wholeheartedly recite mantras it helps focus your energy on doing what you truly want to achieve results you want.
before doing any.. pooja one can say "OM GAM GANPATAye namaha" 3 times.. since it is for Vighna harta. even to remove vighna while doing poja,,.Maha mrununjaya helps you clear your mind... makes you healthy... one can recite- Sarva mangal Mangalye... That's for Godes Lakshmi, saraswati... that also helps... these 3 covers- Ganpati , Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga... and when you get protection from these 3 powers...you are protected...
Will try to reply on "108" part. This is what my mom, mom-in-law and father-in-law told. trying to put it across as I have understood. Seniors, please correct me if I am wrong. The number 108 is thought to be aspicous in yoga nad Hinduism. There are 108 beads+1 Guru bead which represents sun. There are 108 Upanisads, 108 Chakras/marmas in human body, 108 tirthshektra across India. Also the number is approximate distace of Sun, Moon,Earth from each other. i.e Their approximate distance from one another is 108 times their respective diameter.
Hi Express, AUM is the root of all mantras. But why do you want to achieve any results through mantras? You have to savour the mantras, like with a sweet dish. My additional suggestion is to mentally recite Vishnu Sahasranamam that I remember the respected Chitra mam has spoken about many years ago, in this forum.
I mean, while reciting it, you have to ponder on it's meanings. This practice is enough to submerge you in bliss, every time.
Hi ILs, Got some information about chanting / reciting through google. How different chants can help avoid unfavourable incidents ? While we are performing every action in life, God manifests in different forms. Based on this, while performing specific actions, a jiva should chant the Names of specific Deities to obtain maximum benefit from the actions. As mentioned in the ‘Bruhatstotraratnakar’ the Name of the Deity to be chanted is given in the table ahead. Objective / Action Chant 1. Taking medicine --- Shri Vishnave Namaha 2. Eating --- Shri Janardanaya Namaha 3. Sleeping --- Shri Padmanabhaya Namaha 4. During marriage --- Shri Prajapataye Namaha 5. Waging a war --- Shri Chakradharaya Namaha 6. While travelling --- Shri Trivikramaya Namaha 7. While on death bed --- Shri Narayanaya Namaha 8. Meeting a beloved one --- Shri Shridharaya Namaha 9. For overcoming nightmares --- Shri Govindaya Namaha 10. At times of calamities --- Shri Madhusudanaya Namaha 11. Moving about in a forest --- Shri Narsinhaya Namaha 12. When there is a fire --- Shri Jalshayine Namaha 13. When in water --- Shri Varahaya Namaha 14. Climbing a mountain --- Shri Raghunandanaya Namaha 15. While roaming --- Shri Vamanaya Namaha 16. Performing other actions --- Shri Madhavaya Namaha One who regularly chants the above Names of God at the respective times is saved from all difficulties, absolved of sins, and is revered in the Vishnulok. A. Chanting of God’s Name makes a karma (Action) an akarma-karma (Non-action) and we can follow the achars in the true sense When day-to-day karma is performed along with chanting of God’s Name, it becomes an akarma-karma. Since every action becomes an akarma-karma, we do not get good or bad fruits from it. This makes it possible to follow the achar in the true sense and as we continue to do this, we are able to merge with God. Interesting discussion. 2. About significance of 108 - Regarding distance from each other I.e.Sun to moon and moon to earth and earth to Moon in terms of their diameter-something is amiss. In the yore ofdaysbefore inventionof abacus for counting small numbers the phalanges on fingers used. Excluding thumb on palm upto twelve counted and 9 times of that is 108. That is why 108 beads are strung in a Mala used while chanting. There is nothing suspicious or auspicious about it. Shortly I would post an anecdote in non fiction section of SNIPPETS about the instant effect in the form relief from a great burden & ordeal. OHM NAMO BHAGAVATHEY Vasudevaya. Thanks and Regards.
