    @HariLakhera

Hmm, this is not too challenging. Here's my hypocrisy. Growing up, while transitioning from adolescence to adulthood, we, friends would indulge in catfights. Somehow, I always used to pride myself as more polished and gracefully articulate than the rest. Ha! <I am outspoken, you are loud>. <I am frank, you are insensitive>. <I am solicitous, you are officious>. There ..there.. you catch the drift. My leaning is well-bred kinda hauteur.

Then, years later I came across "emotive conjugation".

In rhetoric, emotive or emotional conjugation mimics the form of a grammatical conjugation of an irregular verb to illustrate humans' tendency to describe their own behavior more charitably than the behavior of others. It is often called the Russell conjugation in honour of philosopher Bertrand Russell who expounded the concept in 1948.

    I am
firm, You are obstinate, He is a pig-headed fool.
I am righteously indignant, you are annoyed, he is making a fuss over nothing.
I have reconsidered the matter, you have changed your mind, he has gone back on his word.

I realised that I had been as uncouth and uncivilised in a catfight as others but glossed over my gruff. I falsely held myself high. In a heated catfight, there are no charitable barbs. Everyone stoops to the lowest level. Therefore, today, I prefer to withdraw from catfights at the earliest than stoke such differences for supremacy as I would be forcefully drawn to engage in a degenerating and recriminatory smackdown. But, every now and then, I remit to that hypocritical thinking that ha! <my argument is rational>, <my wording is elegant>, <my poise is striking>, <my footing is stronger>, so forth.

Fast forward to the present, I am mindful not to indulge in skirmishes to preempt from this hypocritical surge esp. one where both the parties are transitioning to a spectacle and embarrassing themselves in public. But then, again, you know, old habits sink hard, I am provoked or get dragged and that hypocrisy prevails, <my point makes more sense>.

    @Iravati,
You are most welcome. It's never too late. Cat fight is a not that bad, anyway. I hope you are not comparing anyone with BR. May be I learnt a few tricks from him as he was my senior.
Very early in life I learnt not to start an argument. Having started, never continue. Having continued, win it. To be on the safer side, I never start an argument. I simply express myself and leave it to others to draw their own conclusions. At times it's very entertaining, at times very educative.
    Quoting Kabeer;
Bura jo dekhan mai gaya, bura na miliya koy,
Jo dil khojoon aapano mujhse bura Na koy.
(Badly translated: I went in search of a bad person, I could find none. Then I looked into my own heart and found that there was no person worse than me)
I am closer to what Kabeer said. I am a hypocrite with no parallel. It takes a whole lot of courage to accept that. It is only after we can identify with our weaknesses that we can think of any remedial measure. Raising fingers on others is the easiest job.

Thank you again for your time out and giving your considered feed back.

    Dear Sunburst and Sindmani,

I was thinking of posting this blog in some other group but since, the Harvey Weinstein is referred here, I thought of posting it here also:

"The two tier justice system, but......???

You steal a cycle and you go to jail, you steal a bank and you become a minister in the government. A Shayar has said
"Dhan ke haton bike hain sab kanoon,
Ab kisi jurm ki saja hi nahi"
(English- money has purchased all the laws, there is no punishment for any crime now).
Harvey Weinstein, a repellent serial sexual deviant could, for more than 30 years :

    -silence the entire media,

-silence the entire Hollywood - partly because they themselves live into glass house.

-silence the top tire actresses because they compromised themselves.

'This is how things work in Hollywood and all actresses who'd made it did it this way' he said"

Asha Ram Bapu and Baba Ram Rahim could also do this because of their money and influence in political circles. There is nothing new and surprising. It has been happening unabated. Be it Hollywood or Bollywood or Tollywood or any other film city. It's understandable because in films, career comes before character.

Not only in films, in offices also. In short anywhere where money and influence prevails over any other type of justice. It happens in households also. Some tolerate it for career advancement, some for family reputation, some under threat to life and some simply because they are timid.

    But this was until......
This was until some brave hearts came out in the open. They thought - enough is enough. It clearly proves that if injustice is bad, tolerating it, is worse.

It's no more enough to say boys will be boys. And who can do it? The victims only. How they can do it? By unconditional universal support. Why it should be done? Because tomorrow it may be you or your daughter's turn."

I shall be delighted to have your feedback.

Women being looked as an object is not acceptable . I understand you are a good person but I object any PERSON WHO SEES WOMEN inferior or as an object. It has to be changed by inculcating good thoughts of respecting all in children especially boy child and also girl child .I hope one day women will be respected equally .

    Dear Sindmani,
Thanks. My post is a satire in first person. So many writers write in first person that does not mean that is their personal description. I for one, love to laugh on myself. I am still at loss to understand how the well read, well experienced members could not see the the larger picture. After gauging the initial reaction I amended the post also. But the tirade continued. I totally agree with you that women should be treated equally and that day may not be far off. I don't only say it but have practiced it and will continue to do so.
I hope those voices of dissent will now say a few words about my reply to you above- The two tire justice system.

    How true HariLakhera
!! A candid confession ! But don't feel guilty. " We are all like that."

We adopt "bribing" within the four walls of our home by promising the child that we will get him a gift, if he passes his exams with flying colours. The birthplace of bribery !!!
We bribe and butter everyone around us so that we are comfortable!!

Every one of us in this world is a hypocrite !! Like some famous man said, " We are not one but three.
The one we think we are.
The one others think we are "
The one we REALLY are !!"

    *MY DYING CONSCIENCE*

    By *Rashmi Trivedi *
Author of *Woman everything will be fine!*

Sometimes in the dark of the night
    I visit my conscience
To see if it is still breathing
For its dying a slow death
    Every day.

When I pay for a meal in a fancy place
An amount which is perhaps the monthly income
Of the guard who holds the door open
And quickly I shrug away that thought
    It dies a little

When I buy vegetables from the vendor
And his son "chhotu" smilingly weighs the potatoes
Chhotu, a small child, who should be studying at school
    I look the other way
    It dies a little.

When I am decked up in a designer dress
A dress that cost a bomb
And I see a woman at the crossing
In tatters, trying unsuccessfully to save her dignity
And I immediately roll up my window
    It dies a little

When at Christmas I buy expensive gifts for my children
On return, I see half clad children
With empty stomach and hungry eyes
Selling Santa caps at red light
I try to salve my conscience by buying some, yet
    It dies a little

When my sick maid sends her daughter to work
    Making her bunk school
I know I should tell her to go back
But I look at the loaded sink and dirty dishes
And I tell myself that is just for a couple of days
    It dies a little

When I give my son the freedom
To come home late from a party
And yet when my daughter asks
I tell her it is not safe
I raise my voice when she questions why
    It dies a little

When I hear about a rape
or a murder of a child,
I feel sad, yet a little thankful that it's not my child
I can not look at myself in the mirror
    It dies a little

When people fight over caste creed and religion
    I feel hurt and helpless
I tell myself that my country is going to the dogs
    I blame the corrupt politicians
    Absolving myself of all responsibilities
    It dies a little

    When my city is choked
Breathing is dangerous in the smog ridden Delhi
I take my car to work daily
Not taking the metro, not trying car pool
One car won't make a difference, I think
    It dies a little

So when in the dark of the night
    I visit my conscience
    And find it still breathing
    I am surprised
    For, with my own hands
Daily, bit by bit, I bury it.

    @HariLakhera,

I received this poem on WhatsApp. It sums up what we are and how we struggle against our own "Whatever it is!!!" And confession sometimes makes us feel a bit better but doesn't help unless we begin some where, correcting some things, at least.

    You have urged some introspection.

    Jeeves,
Thanks. You are right. In a deep sea the bigger fish eats the smaller ones and never feels guilty but then it does not preach otherwise also. The 'I' in the post is me, you, he, she and they. It applies to all. We are expert in preaching only.
    Thanks for a positive approach.

Woh! What a true depiction of a the dual life we live. Death comes only once but till then we die every moment that challenges our honesty and emotion. It is difficult to speak the truth because for some it may be unpalatable. We got accept the reality and find answers rather than closing our eyes and chanting all is well, all is well.
