    Hello ILs,

    I recently accepted a full time position (a good role and responsibilities) and start working soon. But, one thing that's bothering me is my new boss is making too many mistakes in all his e-mail communications, even in the initial communications, Employment Agreement & all the Forms. I work in regulatory (advisory and compliance) & precision is a must in my profession. I have never seen any professional make so many mistakes in e-mails before, we just can't! Examples of his mistakes: While scheduling the interview, he got the day & date wrong, spelling mistakes in e-mails, his job offer had mistakes like full of typo errors, the job offer and employment agreement had different positions (like different levels!!!), also, I had to point out clauses in Agreement which may not be applicable to us (almost like he had picked up paragraphs from a standard format!), today he sent me remaining employment forms; email subject said reminder of forms (he meant remainder) though body of the email correctly stated ‘remainder’ (it wasn’t a reminder since this was his first time of sending).

    All this has led me to wonder, is this guy a joke? It's also a put-off for me since I feel like he can't care about details, which is really important in my area of work. What if he has a history of lawsuits for inaccuracies & legal consequences that clients had to face because of his mistakes? ?? I am really worried, since I have accepted this position and start working soon. On one hand, it's a great role, takes me to next level in my career, but OTOH, the new boss seems like a total joke from his lack of attention to detail. He seems smart from what I know from interviews, but these many mistakes is unprecedented & has left me puzzled.

    Ladies, what are your thoughts in this matter? I am super confused.

    One of my biggest pet peeve is typos in emails . He seems to be someone who doesn’t pay attention to details and I wonder how he gets away with it . How would he react if you or one of his sub-ordinates gets it wrong on so many occasions ? On the other hand , it’s good that he doesn’t pay attention to details which may also mean that he is not a micro managing types . Imagine having a boss who is so involved in every minute details . That will be annoying right ?

    Like you said he seems to be smart , so there will be things you will learn from him considering the fact that he may have way more experience than you and you can learn a lot from him . Also , you may come across good colleagues or a good team overall with whom you will enjoy working . I still meet my collleagues whom I have worked with in the past . A good boss alone doesn’t guarantee a happy job . If things don’t work out find something else . There is always something to learn at any job , good or bad , everything is an experience . There is not much to lose if you accept it except spending less time on IL which the young and the restless gang won’t be happy about .

    @Naari ,

    A bit of unsolicited guidance here. Write stuff online that you are okay (albeit anonymity) for your parents, friends, colleagues, alum, extended family, FB contacts, LinkedIn network, your neighbours, your salsa club members, your library volunteers, everyone you can think of, might be reading it. I am hoping that you have not relayed this incident verbatim here, and have distorted key interactions. If not, I would advise you to drop a note to the moderator and delete this thread.

    You are new in the job. You don't want to jeopardise your career. If we were interviewing candidates, and found out that they have been bandying wild conjectures on the integrity of their employers in social forums, we would blacklist those candidates.

    You being in the Regulatory should be aware of the sensitivity of these matters. Please delete this thread. Hope you don't take my sidenote as a hysterical warning, actually, you might want to, but don't be flippant. Write stuff online that some day if the site is hacked and your profile is busted and your entire writing appears alongside a photo and your real name, you should be forthcoming of your opinionated talk here. Be careful.

    I second the warning above. Social media vents can come back and bite you. Edit the post.
    In any case, from my point of view, this situation is a plus, if you know how to skillfully compensate for his lapses. Figure out a way to insert yourself in between him and the world as proofreader and editor. Regulate to your heart's content. Take it as an opportunity to make yourself valuable/indispensable, without belittling him or coming across as Ms. Smarty Pants. There is no shame in having poor English, especially if it's not his first language. Maybe he's dyslexic. Who knows? Figure out the lie of the land first.

    Never forget, a part of any job is making the boss look good. If you do this with finesse, your colleagues and your boss will come to value your edits. Add to your mystique, don't detract from it.

    OP, now that you accepted this job, go without any prejudice. I know, i know its hard when your profession demands perfection but yes, going without prejudice is what is best for you. For all you know, he may be a super power of knowledge. Certainly hang in there before trying to "make" changes in the "pre-existing" set-up.

    @Iravati Thanks for that reminder. Yes, I have skipped certain important portion of the interactions with him, but the examples are real. Also, my profession is one of the many that can be categorized under the broad umbrella of 'regulatory' & has much more specific to it. So, not much direct references here. But, I hear you. Boss would definitely recognize these interactions if he chanced upon reading this, but in my mind the real challenge is finding this post. He could not possibly find this unless he googled all the key words of our interactions mentioned out here or unless as you state, if my account got hacked and was linked to my real profile by my IP address or similar. A question for all the IT folks, is that a possibility?

    In any case, a very good piece of advice to keep in mind while posting here. Thank you @Iravati . I really appreciate it.

    Very rightly said. I got a taste of it already while reviewing the documents, as I had to point out the mistakes but didn't want to appear to be a smart ass. As a result, just went ahead & suggested changes where the mistakes materially altered the meaning being conveyed in the agreement. So, yes, that's going to be a real challenge.

    Though, I will be the one executing & he reviewing, so I am seeing less of a problem than the situation being other way round, but only time will tell. But, taking everyone's advice here, will be staying positive going into it.
