Admin: You, again? Ira: Could you please expand the edit time window from existing 1 hour to 24 hours? Admin: Why do you guys edit so much? Ira: We are compulsive refiners! That’s we call ourselves these days. Admin: Can’t you get it right the first time? Ira: Actually I do, then I edit and botch up, and further edit and screw up, and when I want to revert to the first instance the window is shut. Admin: That many edits? Ira: Yes, it is edits all the way down. Admin: Bring in a hundred signatures. Ira: Hundred? Admin: Fifty? Ira: Will three do? Mine, sokanasanah’s and I can forge someone’s. Admin: Ok, will look into it. Ira: Can you not shove it under “consider it done.” P-L-E-A-S-E. Admin — same story, same faces, same trouble, please can you look into his time window expansion request. This request may not harm anyone but will immensely please two hapless adults represented by “Make A Wish” foundation.
I was about to redact the content. Yahoo! Because we also have Gauri's signature on the petition, I am leaving it so that Admin does not feel that it is the same doolally pair cribbing about time again and again. 2-3 more signatures and we are a militia here!
I second the petition! As I remember the reason for curtailing the edit window was to prevent remorseful posters from deleting content and rendering entire threads superfluous. However moderators and admin do have the ability to restore content. In cases of egregious misuse of the edit window, I think most members would support admin's right to revert back to older versions of threads/ posts. With such a facility available, why not give us old fogies more of a chance to fix our embarrassing typos? : ) If 24 hours seems excessive, 4-6 hours will work too.
You will make a good lawyer. Whatta point! How did we miss this angle of prosecution last time? Have you been watching any legal dramas of late? We need such sharp shooters amongst the purblind and doddering old fogeys .
Ah! Count my vote. Is there something more worser than embarassment, then that is how it feels these days with my med induced hazy mind and fumbling fingers and a ultra senstive keypad.
Mods - is it that time of the year?? Admin - why, what happened?? Mods- we have a situation here? Admin- what?! Mods- the edit time window Admin - oh not again.
Ha...ha...ha...love the way you wrote about marching for the time window modification @Iravati Gave the nod , will soon be fulfilled by @IL_Admin after she weighs the pros and cons of doing the modification.
@Induslady, thank you for considering the request of the marching coots. There is green drive and such popular conscious initiatives but the unusual request for time window extension will promote grammar drive of us curmudgeons who fidget with editing the posts till we sense the sentence has been sanitized with lexical astringents in the form of spell-checkers and proof readers like that Dettol and Cinthol ads while growing up where models squeal: now you are washed up properly! Our ugly sentences rankle us hence the 24 hours edit window will give us the opty to clean up the residual muck. We fogeys are notorious for such linguistic anxiety. Your undersigned is such a bumbling fogey who aspires to fix her grammar bugbears. Thank you!
Hi Everyone, These are some genuine concerns about the edit window. @Gauri03 has pointed out the exact reason as to why we even had second thoughts about keeping the edit window to just an hour. This previous discussion has all the pros and cons weighed in Edit Time There is always a risk that some members might misuse the edit window which would eventually lead to meaningless threads. We can revert the original post but it is not possible to do it in a timely way unless it is brought to our notice or we happen to see it during our moderation activities. We are trying out a few options like increasing the edit window by a few more hours. Hopefully we will have something in place within a few days. Will update soon Thank you
Hi Everyone, Sorry for the delay. The edit time window has been increased from 1 to 3 hours We will keep a watch for a few days to see how it is being used. Please report any posts that are deleted/changed in such a way so that the whole thread is rendered meaningless. Thank you.
