my 5.5 month old baby has been recently become very irritable. At night she used to sleep for 3-4 hours at a stretch and may be wake up for feeding once or twice. She is on solids now, I feed her morning, afternoon and evening. During the day, the solids make her very sleepy, I rock her to sleep (that too crying and crying) but she wakes up from her nap in 15 minutes and keeps crying. I put her back to sleep and again she wakes up. This is going on and on and on. My whole day is spent in putting her to sleep or rock her. i am going mad like this and tired. I am not able to have my lunch also properly for last many days. I do not have any help at home, I am taking care of her alone and dear hubby away at work. These days she is bitting on to anything she finds. Not sure if she is teething or something.

In the night, She doesn't sleep properly. She wakes very hour or 2 hours and doesn't sleep. I have to rock her to half an hour or 1 hour to sleep. This is going on for almost a month now and I am loosing my patience. Thanks to my DH , who is very supportive and extends his help every time. But I am not able to understand what is going on and when is this going to end? Has anyone gone through this? I am always tired because of this.

    Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi dear
I know it us very exhausting. can you try and stop solids for a day or two just to make sure that her tummy is not hurting. Apart from that try to swaddle her. Babies who are swaddled tend to sleep more. Is she turning over to her tummy ?
That could be the cause that she is waking so frequently because while sleeping she might be trying to turn.
Swaddling will ne pretty useful in such case.
Try to give her massage at least thrice . It will sooth her and head bath at least once a day.
Keep offering your breastmilk more.massage her tummy for any trapped wind. If nothing seems to work then probably it is just a phase dear. And being a mother we have to bear it.

    Hi @boldnbutiful

I have checked everything. There are non of these issues. She passes stool twice a day and no chance of constipation. I was giving her ragi porridge probably quite heavy on her little tummy. I have stopped it and will stick to veg puree for sometime

I think this is just a phase dear. But one thing thats bothering me here is why you started her in solid so early. That too three times which is too much for a young baby who is not even six months. My son is also same age but I am not starting him on solid any time soon.

    Hi @fourthaugust

Pead asked to start with ragi and other foods this early that too 3 times a day. Btw she happily eats 3 times. I have noticed ragi seems to become heavy on her tummy may be. Rest of the solids she is taking without any issues. My baby was lactogen intolerant which caused her bad diaper rashes because of acidic poop. Thats why doc asked me to start solids

Welcome to the realities of new motherhood OP. I can pretty much relate to your experience and sorry to hear your struggle.
First make sure she is medically ok, not colic, no gas issues, breathing issues etc..by consulting a doctor. It take time for a baby to establish a good sleeping pattern( sleep through night). Your may have to wait few more months.

I assume that she is ok . I wonder if it too early for a 5 month old to take solid foods three times a day. Can you replace one time with rice cereal (with mixed fruits) (I used Gerber brand) or breastfeed or give formula. May be the food is playing some role role. Check that options . Give gas drops(I used mylicone) after feeding. Burp her.

My DD had gas issues and it was difficult for her to sleep. We tried different options finally succeeded with a swing. We make her sleep at an angle not flat on bed. Her upper body was kept in a raised and inclined position.( like in a bouncer). That helped a lot. We also tried traditional cloth swing, still upper body in raised position. You may also try that..

    hi @DDream

thanks for your advise, I am thinking to stop for today and give her only BM. hopefully that will flush out whatever she has eaten and ease her tummy a bit in case its hurting her. I give her bonnisan and very helpful.

Every day is like decoding the cause of crying :(

harsh realities of motherhood i guess :(
