    Dear Cheeniya Sir,

I am so happy to see two threads posted in a short period of time which is a sign of your presence with your full self-confidence and humor-filled messages. When everyone split hair to read a heavy spiritual content and disseminate knowledge out of it, your unique approach of seeing simple happenings in life and learn lessons out of it is like a fresh air in the open field.

I see Dhamu as a unique character filled with innocence and love for his friends. When he utter such common sense statements with profound commitment, he perhaps is communicating "Let us all get the serenity to understand things that we can't control, courage to do things that we control and understand the difference between the two".

I had a friend who is filled with great sense of humor and his timing to utter funny words is impeccable and remain etched eternally in my mind. His name is Sridhar but we passionately call him "Hindu Sridhar" as he worked in the circulation department of "The Hindu".

Another common friend (who went on to become a Cricket Test player later) brought his sister's infant son along with him complaining that the child is constantly crying at home even when he made him sit around his neck. He is a very tall and well built guy. Sridhar responded, "First drop him down to the ground. At that altitude, even I will feel dizzy and cry".

On another occasion, we all visited a friend's home for dinner. Our friend's mom kept telling so often to all of us not to feel shy and eat as much as we want. Sridhar replied, "Mami, please keep serving without feeling shy yourself as we all eat a lot".

Those memories came to me thinking of Dhamu.

    Dear Cheeniya sir,
Every person irrespective of he/she has two personalities. One to the outside world and another inside the house. Generally they do not tally with each other. It is different spending with friends for a couple of hours and put their best appearance in behaviour, crack jokes, makes everyone laugh....good in repartees , like mixing sambhar with rice etc. But spending life time 24/7 is a different thing. Do not see best in each other. She must have heard his jokes umpteen number of times, no more smiles on his jokes. She gets irritated with his friends for enjoying his jokes. For living with him she needs many more aspects of his personality other than joking.
I think home and club should be different. Not creating club atmosphere at home by serving goodies to be taken along with drinks. Somehow I do not think it is the right thing to do to keep him under her surveillance. In reality can anybody can keep constantly under their surveilliance? Isn't it suffocating? It is.
So, meet your friend outside his home and let the couple deal with each other at home. Whether he is half mad or full mad or vice versa...they would decide.

    Dear Cheeniya sir!

That's indeed a wonderful write-up about a witty friend! When I read about his wife's reaction and retort, I got reminded of a verse from the Bible, "Only in his hometown and in his own household is a prophet without honor" - Once a cousin of mine uttered this, in a saint-like tone, when criticized by his wife. I picked up and tell this whenever my Mom doesn't have enough trust on my ability to do something!
    Enjoyed the Snippet as always!

    Dear Cheeniya sir,

I read this just before I left for school and the only thought that came to my mnd was "His wife should know that very few people are smarter than 5th graders". I fyou don't believe me, tell me why that show "Are you smarter than a th grader" is that popular.
If only she knew! Sense of humor and wisdom, hand in hand - now wonder you enjoyed his company so much! This snippet definitely brought a smile on my face!

    Dear Cheeniya Sir,

Nowadays it is hard to find people of Damu's nature. Joke should be one which evokes laughter instantly and should not be at the cost of hurting others feelings. Nagesh and Crazy Mohan are two persons who time their jokes very well. Well, enjoyed your snippet as usual, this time featuring Damu aka Damodaran as the hero!

    My dear kkrish
What a sacrilege you have committed in comparing me to my literary gods, R.K.Narayan and KVJ! I grep up reading their timeless classics and whenever I recall their writing a smile never forgets to crease my face! Gopulu was another timeless artist whose cartoons and caricatures never failed to light my day. When Tillana Moganambal was being serialised in Vikatan, there was always a debate whether it was the writer Subbu or the caricaturist Gopulu who made the novel truly alive.
What I have written about Dhamu was not fiction. It was a scene that you could see in many upper middle class families. I even now see them today! Encomium? So be it!

I disagree with you on the sacrilege sir.
Your writing did capture the same simple life that RKN writings have, especially his My Days. KVJ for his subtle humor and that's what was interlaced in the entire article of yours.
Encomiums on you sir? My feedback is from the heart. So it is.
