    Hi Friends

My 5yr old DS doesnt let me teach his 11 yr old bro. It is Final exam time and I'm working full time. I have anyways very little time to teach.
but the 5yr old keeps interrupting, distracting, making noises or if nothing else, just starts crying so that im not able to teach his bro.

I try to engage him in his level of work or studies but he refuses to do whatever i tell him to do. even if he agrees, he will sit in my lap and ask me to hold his hand while he writes or draws.

Basically anything to take me away from giving attention to the elder one.

the elder one himself is very very tough to teach. he also realises sub-consciously what the little one is doing and keeps trying to get back at him.

can anyone suggest some tips to get some order between them and then be able to teach the elder one.

Ideal would be the younger one understanding and making himself busy with tv or something. but he just doesnt do that.

(as such i dont encourage tv generally as my substitute, but now when i really need to concentrate elsewhere, i'm even ready to give in to that.)

    Please suggest some ideas

Leave the 5 year old with father for an hour or two, so they both can spend some quality time together, either inside the home or somewhere outside like park, mall, play area. You and your elder one go to a separate room and study uninterrupted for an hour and then spend your time with the 5 year old. The 5 year old needs you more than your first child, and slowly make your first child independent so he can study by his own without depending on you.

Thanks a lot for replying Daksh. Atleast someone replied. i had given up waiting for a reply.

Problem is the younger one wont be on his own even for 1 hr. even if i give him tv or some stories on computer etc.
his dad doesnt do much to help me out in this situation, instead blames me that i'm just pushing the younger one away all the time - which is not true. I've even tried keeping him in my lap while i teach, but he wont stay there quietly, he will either start distracting the elder one or start to talk to me, attract my attention etc.

the elder one is rather naughty and also doesnt study till i really scare him and concentrate on him. its final exams and still i have to make him realise the importance of studying, he is forever ready to run away and play etc.
i know it looks like an impossible situation but maybe someone might have handled this in a better way so there might be suggestions.

any neighbor's kid of his age where they can play together.. ?When polite way of saying doesn't work, be little tough and make him understand how important it is..IMO I think 5 year old is not too young to handle or make him understand.

Thanks Bhagya...I've tried a lot to explain to the younger one that just for this week let him study, its important etc but he doesnt pay heed.

Neighbours... we used to have earlier, but we recently shifted house. there are people nearby but we still dont know them well enough... just met them once so its rather formal.

Who takes care of your kids when you are at work?
What activity really interests your younger son inside the house? What is his "reward" ?
At what time do your sons go to bed? Does your younger one take a nap?
