It’s all so easy to remember! 8th August 2016! 8.8.16! Basics in addition!

Yes, that was the day I heard a mention being made of my brain stroke. Hooray, I said to my Doctor and thanked her for confirming the existence of a brain in my massive head. I smiled triumphantly at my wife who always had her suspicion about the contents of my head! You will understand my jubilance if you look at my stroke of luck! Strokes have their good and bad points and I am mentioning the good point first because the contents of my head have always been a bone of contention between me and my wife and I was glad that it finally got settled in my favour ending a 50 year dispute.

Around the midnight of the day I was referring to, I woke up to answer the call of nature and found to my great surprise that the right half of my house missing. I woke up my wife and pointed out to her this mystery adding that my toilet was missing. My wife woke up my daughter to point out not the mystery of the missing toilet but my unusual behaviour. My daughter got alarmed and summoned the doctor living below our floor for his view on my unusual behaviour. He got alarmed too and suggested moving me to a multi-speciality hospital close to my house. The doctors took charge of me and took a scan of my head. I was duly sent to the ICU for further investigation and treatment. My strange story did end there with the verdict that I have suffered a stroke. I was in hospital for a week and discharged with lots of does and don’ts.

Two days later, after a dull eventless day, I went to bed seeking greener pastures in my dreams. At around midnight, I felt an unusual pang of hunger and blamed it on my overcautious wife who had been feeding me frugally since my stroke. I woke her up and gave her a mouthful about her unwarranted caution. ‘I may not die of stroke but I’ll surely die of hunger if you do this to me’ I told her. She picked out a massive apple and laid it before me duly de-skinned and neatly sliced. I emptied the contents in ten seconds flat like SV Ranga Rao in the movie ‘Maya Bazaar’. I didn’t sing ‘Kalyana Samayal Saatham’ though like he did in the movie. A couple of hours after the fateful apple went into my tummy, I seemed to have made a hideous noise and fell unconscious. I was duly shifted to the ICU again with the same brand-Stroke patient. Lots of friends came to see me and I had jolly good conversations with all of them though they seemed to have told my wife that I seemed quite normal though they could not make out what I was trying to say!

Another week in hospital and I was discharged with more dont’s than does this time! I lost the vision in the right eye and the doctors have assured me that I would get up 60% of my vision in about six months. It’s the sixth month now and I have regained only about 20% of my vision in the right eye. My left ear has declared non-cooperation with my right. I walk with a stick but its fun. No dogs which always targeted me come anywhere near me now being possibly allergic to stick wielding me.

As you all know, I am a single-finger typist but now I am single-eyed too. It took me hours to type out this post. I really wonder if it makes any sense to you. But the great thing is that I am back with you. There may be a hundred mistakes in this post but the crux is that I am back with you. I hope you are happy too to see me back!

    Dear Cheeniya Sir,

"A Stroke of luck" - When I read this heading I was wondering what it is about and who has written this. To my pleasant surprise, it was written by you. One thing is clear. No matter, what the stroke did to you, it had no ability to impact your great sense of humor.

Jill Bolte Taylor, a very famous brain researcher shared her experience of having a stroke in the following link:

    My stroke of insight

You were missing a part of the house and she didn't remember the number she needs to call to seek help. Eventually, she had to recall the pattern of typing the numbers from another part of the brain to dial her office but still couldn't speak as she lost her speech.

A friend of mine who faced the stroke recently here in the US described the recovery period as refreshing and start of a new life.

I wish you not only a speedy recovery but a very enlightening experience of self-discovery. May be the reset had happened to give you a new beginning to explore the meaning of life. I sincerely look forward to reading more of your thoughts when you are able to write more.

My best wishes to you and family.

    Viswa

    Dear, dear Cheeniya sir,

It is such a treat to read a snippet from you and it is indeed very reassuring. What a sense of humour can't do for a person! So delighted to see that your's is fully intact.

I am sure your remaining vision will come by and by and that you will be back to your old self very shortly.

This place seemed so empty without your lively presence.

We are all delighted to have you back and look forward to a lot of laughs flowing from your keyboard.
