Hi All, i am going for swimming classes for the past 6 months, only on weekends. i swim nearly 1.5 hrs each time.

I feel tired after swimming and unable to do any work at home for next 3\4hrs. do any of you guys face this situation. I am a vegetarian ( no egg), can you please suggest some healthy food option to overcome the energy drain.

I sip water throughout swimming, and I do only freestyle.

I never faced this problem. Generally I swim in late evenings and after 1.5 hours I used to have dinner. Can you ask your swimming instructor about this? May be you can try to lessen the session timing to one hour.

We have a swimming pool in apartment so we use it as a family time. Me, Husband and our toddler used to go for swimming everyday or atleast four/five days in a week. Not an expert still :-(
Avoiding these days due to cold weather. Should resume this activity from next month

@Srinidhi007 - When you feel tired and depleted after any exercise, you have to look at how you fuel that workout and what you do to recover afterwards.

Can you eat your lunch after you get back? It's important to have some protein loaded snack or a meal after an activity. Helps with muscle regeneration.
You could eat a light breakfast early and then swim like you do now. Have something ready to eat as soon as you get back.

I generally eat a plain yogurt or some nuts or cheese or drink milk with protein powder in it after a long workout session if I'm not eating a meal immediately afterwards. Look at your daily protein intake. Make sure it is sufficient. Getting enough lentils, milk products, nuts etc? I had to cut back on the carbs and take in more protein to start running longer.

Also check on your daily water intake. Make sure you are getting the 8 or so cups of 8 oz daily. That's going to help you stay hydrated.

I also sip electrolytes for longer workouts. I live in a very hot place and I do it during the warm months. If not I feel so depleted. I don't have this issue during the winter months. I run with just water or sometimes don't carry any.
Coconut water, water with a pinch of Himalayan salt, water with electrolyte added to it are all stuff I do in place of water.

Fuel your swimming and as you go your endurance will build and you can do this effortlessly. Then you will probably add other things to your routine or up this a little!

An hour and a half of swim laps is pretty good endurance, but you may want to get some feedback on how efficient your strokes are and on your breathing. Inefficient strokes and poor breathing mean that you are trying to do a lot with limited oxygen i.e. even if your general aerobic fitness is good, sub-optimal technique may tax your capacity. This can increase your exertion and consequently fatigue. Depending on the feedback, you may want to step back from the endurance aspect and focus on efficiency for a while.

I agree with Laks09, eating some protein packed snack before and post your workout/ swimming and keeping yourself hydrated will be extremely beneficial.
I usually eat a banana, a cup of milk or yoghurt and some almonds before and post my workout. Protein shakes or smoothies are good options too. This will keep you fueled up till dinner time.
