    Hello Readers!

Have you seen the movie “Inside Out”? That movie describes all the feelings we have such as sadness, happiness, anger, fear, etc in an animated way. But there is one important feeling I like in that movie. That is nothing other than “Butterfly feeling”. Do you remember the way we feel when we see our crush? I prefer calling that as butterfly feeling. I am pretty sure everyone would have felt that special feeling one time or the other.

One day in my college hostel, we have decided to reminisce our butterfly moments. We were totally seven girls sitting in that 10*10 room. We took turns and started telling our stories which includes a guy in the tuition, temple, share auto, etc. It was so funny. We were thoroughly enjoying the talk. Now, it’s one of my college seniors turn. She began by stating that her crush list is huge. Hurrah! I was in with all ears. She told that her first moment started when she was 8. Eight?! There was a guy in her neighborhood who looked pretty cool in his tennis racket. That’s when she decided that she has to become a tennis player. She literally forced her dad and joined in one tennis club around her place. She said that she would have become Maria Sharapova if she had the same interest throughout, which she didn’t have. Next, she saw FIFA world cup on TV and decided she has to become a football player. Now, again dad had to pay big bucks to join her in a football club. It’s just a fling again. This time it didn’t even last six months. Poor dad!

At the age of 11, there was a guy in her class who was liked by everyone in the class. She learnt that he was part of basket ball team. She didn’t hesitate and joined immediately. Who would miss an opportunity to be with their crush? She found the game interesting too. But later, the crush on the game faded away and so was the crush on the guy. One good thing is her dad was not surprised this time. By now, he understood his daughter better. When she was 14, one of her best friends was sports coordinator. On a day of chess competition, one of the players from the chess group didn’t turn in as she was sick. Her friend requested her to fill in the place. My senior just accepted as a favour. She won the game. From then, she started playing chess on and off in the chess club. As the days went on, she started playing chess regularly and found the game exciting. Now she is one of the state level players in my country. She was the captain for our college chess team. She told that her dad was quite shocked that she is still playing chess. Of-course, this was not the “butterfly feeling” story I expected to hear. But in the end, I loved her story. She got into sports at the age of 8. It took her six years to figure out her area of interest. That’s something to think about!

When it comes to career, we can concentrate on one skill and try to grow in that ladder or we can try to learn multiple skills irrespective of its connections to our current profile and try to grow in the ladder. Oh no! Here it’s actually not the ladder but it’s a jungle gym as per Sheryl. Which option do we have to choose? It totally depends on one’s interest. But I feel learning multiple skills give us a vast knowledge and make us handle things better. I strongly believe that being good in multiple skills is better than being expert in one single skill. In case of a job interview, I am pretty sure the person who is good in multiple skills has the highest chance of getting recruited. Above all this, it will really help us to find our area of interest.

Sheryl stated that the person joining in small companies will grow faster than the person joining in already established company. Actually, she is one living example for that. She joined Google when it’s not even popular. That’s the same for her even when she joined Facebook. Now she is COO at Facebook. Taking the career forward is just the same as searching your soul mate. You will come across various crushes before you find love of your life. In the same way, you might have to come across various skills before you identify your core skill. Let me analyze my interests while you do yours.

See you all soon with the next post. Until then, Bye! Happy Reading!
