    Part 5

It was a brand new day. Her heart was filled with happiness. Even her parents noticed this change in their daughter and asked her the reason behind this, but she just said that she was feeling happy for no reason at all. They didn’t say anything more and she left for the office. She knew now why she was so much affected by that amusing smile. She was in love and it felt beautiful. She never believed in love at first sight instead she used to tease her friends when they mentioned that theirs was ‘love at first sight’.

Today she understood how they felt and why they were always wearing a smile on their face and waiting for the break times. She got down the bus and started looking all around her for Krishna. “Where is he?” she thought getting into the lift. She was hoping that may be he will meet her in the lift just like last time. But this time it will be different. She has changed. Her feelings towards him changed. Will he notice this change in her? She kept thinking without even noticing that she has reached her floor. With a disappointment in her heart she entered the office.

Even though she was working, all the time she was surrounded by his smile. Her friends noticed this and asked the reason behind her glowing face. She refused to let out the secret and straight away denied it by saying that she is just her usual self. They didn’t probe anymore as Ananth reached there and instructed few of them some works and gave a skeptic look to her and called her to bring a specific file to his cabin.

After finishing the left over work related to that file, she went to his cabin carrying it with her. The moment she entered the room “Is there something special today?” She was shocked to see that GABBAR was asking her this question. He who never gave her a second look after that first meeting is asking her the reason for the glow on her face.

“Why should I tell him, even though the urge to see his smile vanish is so big?” She thought. She shrugged and didn’t give a reply. He got irritated with this and returned back to his GABBAR behavior. “That’s more like him. Why does he poke his head into my personal life? He has no right to ask me such questions.”

At lunch time she went to the floor where Krishna entered the lift and inquired about him. No one was able to give a satisfactory reply as there was more than one person working with that name there and she didn’t know his full name. So she asked about their working hours and left.

From the moment she was back to her seat she kept looking at the watch. When it was time to leave she just packed her things and rushed so that she won’t miss him. When she reached the floor she was informed by the same guard that the office hours are over and they would come out any minute. She waited there eagerly for a very long time. Those who were coming out viewed her with curious eyes. After sometime when no one was coming out she asked if Krishna was still stuck in some work. He told her that there was no one else left but on her request he looked at her sympathetically and went inside to check. When he came back he saw her anxious look and felt sad to tell her that she was wasting her time. But he had to tell her. So he came near her and told her in a soft tone that there was no one inside as he has expected and when he saw her looking so sad he said “Why don’t you meet the manager? May be he would be able to help you. Come back tomorrow by 10 AM.”

She dragged herself from there and got into the bus to return home. On her way she went through every detail of their short meetings. She realized that he didn’t mention to her that he was working in that particular office. She was irritated by her foolishness that she forgot this important detail before going down looking for him. Now she remembered that she first saw him going to the same floor where her office was located. He must have come here to meet someone. “Why didn’t I think of that?”

By the time she reached home she felt exhausted, not physically though. She kept a happy face for her parents’ sake and went ahead with the daily chores, had dinner with them and then went to bed telling them that she is feeling tired. Lying in bed she cursed herself for what she did and vowed that she wouldn’t repeat such thing in future. She also felt strongly that she must ask him everything about him the next time she saw him.

Days went by. She immersed herself in work in order to forget about him. “What a fool I have been? I shouldn’t have let myself fall in love with such a person.” She scolded herself for the 100th time and tried to concentrate on work. Gabbar asked once or twice about why she was looking so upset but after not receiving an answer gave up. She was surprised to see that though he looks so tough from outside he is indeed a good person. In the last few months when she had to accompany him to various meetings, when they were coming back to their office he often stopped at two places in particular. At the beginning when he stopped there and asked her to wait in the car while he finishes his work and comes back, she happily obliged. She thought that he stopped here to meet his friend or girl friend. From the look of the building it seemed like some rich person has built it to take a break from their busy life to come here and rest. The buildings were both posh but beautiful and the peace that surrounded it was mesmerizing. Once when he took a lot of time to return, she couldn’t sit there watching from outside. So she went in to have a quick look at the house. She thought she would say that she was getting bored waiting in the car so she came to see what was taking so long.

She was surprised to the scene that invited her. The giggling sound of a child and his laugh reached her ears even before she saw that he was standing at the doorstep hugging and kissing a kid who was holding a huge teddy in her hands and saying bye. Anyone who saw him at that time would have thought that he was having a great time with his kid. His face looked peaceful. She never saw him so happy and laughing. In fact, this was the first time she even saw him laughing like a child with a child. “Who is this kid?” she thought. No one ever mentioned of him being married.

    Part 6

She shrugged her shoulders and went back to the car without making any noise. After few minutes, he came outside and apologized for the delay. All the way to her home he was silent but the smile on his face was undisturbed even by the irritating traffic they were going through. She was amazed to see him in this mood. The moment they were outside her house he muttered thanks and left. "Gabbar and thanks doesn’t go hand in hand" she thought with a smile and entered the home to find herself in midst of a group of strangers. She got confused for a second if she has entered a wrong house, but when she saw her mother coming towards her half nervous as if caught in the middle of doing something and half relieved to see her there.

“What is going on? Who are these people?” Kamya couldn’t hide the irritating in her voice as they were looking at her continuously and whispering from the moment they laid eyes on her.

“Come on inside. Get freshen up quickly and help me in the kitchen.” Her mother told her and left before she could ask anything else.

She went inside, washed her face and went straight into the kitchen to help her mother. While doing so she asked about the people outside. Her mother didn’t turn to see her and said in a casual tone that they are her father’s friend and his family. Something didn’t sound right but she couldn’t argue with her while the guests were waiting for them. So she took the tray given by her mother and went to serve the guests. She didn’t take a proper look at them before but on seeing them closely she felt as if something fishy is going on here.

The moment she handed them the sweets, the eldest lady among the group started asking her various questions about her likes and dislikes, her job and other stuff. Now Kamya was sure that they came specifically to see her. She turned to her mother at the first opportunity she got and frowned at her. Her mother gave her a timid smile with an urge in it to keep quiet and not make a wrong move.

Kamya felt frustrated with what was going on. She saw that the boy who came along with these people was going on staring at her as if she came from another planet. For her parents sake she kept quiet and once they left the house she asked what this was all about though she understood who those guests were. Kamya’s mother looked at her husband and going into the kitchen said, “Explain it to her yourself. I told you this would happen.”

Her father asked Kamya to sit beside him and then explained about the marriage proposal. It was raised by the groom’s parents and since they couldn’t immediately refuse, they said that they should meet like friends and if the kids like each other then they can decide about rest of the things slowly.

With an open mouth she heard all this. Finally after recovering from the shock, she informed her father that she doesn’t want to get married just yet and was about to leave. Her father asked immediately if she is in love with someone.

She couldn’t reply. What would she say? She had no clue where Krishna was and also there was a major issue other than his whereabouts. Does he love her? Until now she never thought about it. He never said anything that would let her feel sure that he loves her. He had asked her name when they met last time. That is all. She didn’t see him after that brief meeting. She felt as if she lost something very precious and this brought a lump in her throat while answering the question her father asked. “No dad, nothing like that. I would like some time for myself. Won’t you let me have it?” The pleading tone caused her father to look at her keenly as if he would find an answer on her face. But she quickly turned and left. In her room she looked outside the window brooding about the future. Just then her phone rang.
