I tell you Oj-da, the culprit is the Sea of China - reminding the man what lay across. Just because the sea feels it can swallow up that one drop, how can it let a man commit such a thing? Yet I feel, Ooph! do the Japanese really feel that embarrassed for others? I would have simply discarded the shirt with the stain along with the mortified look of that pretty Japanese girl ! We are all entitled to some carelessness here and there especially while thinking of that one special one :)

Or even better why not let that one drop remind one of that special moment again and again?

I stared across the Bay of Bengal wondering why and how it got the name Bengal tagged on to it when it has only a tiny piece of this large sea . But then it is the way of the world. We consume bottles of soya sauce but that one drop that spills on our shirt sleeve continues to challenge our minds for the rest of our life!

    Dear Sabitha,

Your two liner at the end sums it up so well. Brevity is the soul of wit. I hope one day I will be able to write my life story in a single sentence, perhaps 5 words or so.

More seriously, it's an art form I am desperately trying out. To tell you frankly, I am completely immersed in it now. I am almost sure it is taking me somewhere.

No. A tiny soya stain haunted him for the rest of his life. And, quite unpardonably, that Chinese girl vanished.

    Dear Sri,

True enough. A miniscule beauty spot you might have noticed on someone's face during your youth might haunt you for the rest of your life. If it doesn't, what's the point of living friend? Or am I going crazy? Perhaps I should stop halucinating. I mean writing.

    Yes Padma,

You summed it up so correctly. A haiku tries to capture eternity in 3 lines. I tried that for a while. But now this new format, flash fiction, has trapped me. You are absolutely right. A story is no story if the reader cannot interpret it her own way. That was exactly my objective. And you saw it so clearly! Thank you so much.

Dang it Oj-da! I can see why the stain became permanent!

I knew you would see it. But it took me a lot of time to write it!! It would have been disappointing if no one saw it.
