No parent is perfect. Parenting doesn't come with a manual. Or mine got lost in the mail.

But each parent, while awake and even when pretending to be asleep : ) endeavors to be the best parent he/she can be. There are so many facets to parenting. No parent can be good at all of them.

Name one or more areas that are your strength as a parent, that you do well and easily.

And then, only then, name one or more where you think you need improvement.

I was talking with a friend who was having some mini-crisis with kid. She thinks I have it all figured out, and it all comes easily. 'What for you yaa... you ... your kid...' she was saying.

Cutting the long yak short : ) we ended up listing each other's parenting strengths to each other. I reminded her she makes nutritious food for her kids daily and they hardly eat out, she really looks into what nutrition each one needs for the sport they play, her kids do gardening actively, they speak their mother-tongue fluently.

She told me I always know about the school stuff, extracurricular activities, and I manage to get my kid to willingly talk with me about their day at school in quite some detail.

These kinda threads push me to depression :( :(
I don't know what's happening in the school, I don't cook nutritious food. :(:( Many days I don't even cook:(
If I study properly and keep my job safe:worried::worried:, I guess I will be able to pay off their college loans and I will add that to my strength. I can't find any other.:neutral:

^^^ Rofl, JAM. Not the intent to give cause for depression. Though doesn't such depression strike us regularly, and I have this vague notion that it is even a good thing.....

I've come to realize that most of a parent's description of their own parenting, is exaggerated. The positives overstated, and the negatives too overstated. We are just too hard on ourselves.

Your strength would be being a role model on getting the knowledge and skill needed to get a job. If I may take the liberty of saying so, which I already have, ha ha. : )

BTW, you do have a nice avatar that gazes down benevolently at what you write. Do give it posts to gaze down upon more often. : )

Rihana, I just woke up (its evening here and no pretend sleep) as I was too stressed and wanted to give some peace to others at home.
I cook nutritious meal, to an extent knows what happens in school and not too strict about grades. Both can read/write in our language fluently.
But I am too strict disciplining them , I am working on it

    Had to edit ....

Yikes this thread is becoming a parental confession box, priest optional. Well, I am never shy, and almost grateful for the opportunity to 'fess some of mine.

Took a nap myself late late afternoon yesterday, in 'outside' clothes. The Goldilocks in my head non-stop pondering if I am too strict, too lenient. Too pushy, too artificially not-pushy. Is what they do enough, or should do more. Talented and bright kids in the area getting into top colleges and able to choose from multiple offers. Good for the school, good for the home values.. but not good for mind of parents who have smart but not in the top 2-5% kids.

Straw bad for the camel's back was one mom telling me why I don't/didn't get my kids to participate in locally and nationally reputed science fairs............. as if I am a magician. If kid don't like science, kid don't like science, no!!!!!

Well misery loves company.. nasty texts to poor better-half. He comes home and too scared to switch on TV for basketball.. LOL. I have to go and mess with the darned universal remote and get the right channel (HD! not regular) and make happiness prevail again.
